Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle has made another big addition to his staff official, as LSU's Nolan Cain has been hired as an assistant coach.

Cain spent the last eight years in a variety of roles in Baton Rouge, including the last four as a Tigers' assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator, also serving as the third-base coach as well as working with outfielders and catchers.

“Nolan is quite simply one of the premier coaches and recruiters in college baseball,” Schlossnagle said. “His success at LSU on the recruiting trail speaks volumes and for itself. At the same time, he is an outstanding coach and teacher of the game at a variety of positions. We are excited to have him and his beautiful family in Aggieland.”

Since 2014, Cain has helped the Tigers to two College World Series appearances, two SEC regular-season championships and two SEC Tournament crowns.

On the recruiting trail, three of Cain's last four classes have been ranked in the top five, including Baseball America's No. 2 class in 2020. The Tigers inked the nation's top class in 2017.

In the last five seasons, Cain products were drafted by multiple Major League organizations, including three second-rounders and one third-rounder.

A 2009 graduate of Louisiana State, Cain pitched on the Tigers' 2009 national championship team, including an appearance in Game 2 of the championship series in which he fired 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball against the Texas Longhorns.

Following his collegiate career, the Detroit Tigers organization signed Cain as an undrafted free agent in June of 2009, where he played for one season before returning to Baton Rouge in 2014 as coordinator of baseball operations for his alma mater.

Cain is the third addition to Schlossnagle’s first A&M coaching staff. Michael Earley was hired from Arizona State to coach Aggie hitters, and Arizona’s Nate Yeskie is on board to tutor the pitchers.

You couldn't ask for a better coaching staff for our Fighting Aggie Baseball team! Coach Schloss hit the cover off the ball! Home run is not strong enough an expression. How about we go with "Grand Slam"!
