Trisha Ford recaps 'great' weekend, previews upcoming Clearwater test

Aggie softball jumped out to a perfect 6-0 start, outscoring opponents 68-3 in the Texas A&M Invitational at Davis Diamond over the weekend. On Tuesday morning, head coach Trisha Ford joined TexAgs Radio to talk about her first weekend in Maroon & White and more.

• It was a great weekend, honestly. Wins are well received here. It was a good weekend. We came out and executed our plan. I told them that I don't care who is in the other dugout and that it's about us and our process. They executed it very, very well.
   
• The energy, you could feel the excitement at the field. You hope and wish that all the work you put in will show up. We were fortunate that it showed up the first weekend, but our next two weekends will be tough. That's the fun stuff.
   
• Being in Bryan-College Station has been wonderful. The small-town field that Texas A&M and Aggieland have is unique, and it’s part of why I came here. My kids are involved. My son plays baseball with Twelve. My daughter is at Consol High School. We're getting our feet wet in the community.
   
• Jim Schlossnagle is wonderful. He sent me a nice text message over the weekend. They get going this weekend, and our bat-and-ball sports are back in full swing.
   
• For a while, I didn't think Trinity Cannon was going to get out. She had that kind of weekend. She took her walks, and that's what we've harped on with her and Julia Cottrill. We explained to them that they will get themselves out, so they need to not swing at pitches that aren’t strikes. She did her job and got some big RBIs this weekend. I'm excited for her. The transition from third to first has been no problem for her. It's all about what's best for us, and I think she's loving it. I think it has worked out.
   
• The whole team has been open to whatever we need. Rylen Wiggins started as a shortstop, moved to second and is now at third. She told us yesterday that she loves it. They want to win and play at a high level, and that's what they're eager for.
   
• I will always say we need more time to prepare for an Opening Weekend, but the team was ready. They said they were tired of playing each other. They were ready to get after somebody else.
   
• Aiyana Coleman can hit the ball a country mile. Her first at-bats didn't go according to plan, and she was nervous. I love seeing the freshman nervousness. She’s a hometown kid and wanted to hit one so badly. To hit that home run on Sunday and get that monkey off her back was huge.
   
• This weekend at the Clearwater Invitational is the good stuff. We're going to hit some bumps this year, and they will be good bumps. It's time for us to really learn. We have nothing to lose. All the pressure is on Oklahoma State, Arizona and UCF. Those are all postseason teams, but we were too last year. I enjoy this. I enjoy the fight.
   
• These are tools that you're going to put in your box to pull out at a different time in the season. I’m sure we'll face Oklahoma State's stud lefty, but all of that is going to make us better and get us ready for conference play.
   
• It's nice to see the recognition from the D1Softball rankings. I don't mind not being ranked right now, and I hope we shock some people. Still, it's early in the season, so we have to put our heads down and just go to work.
