On Monday, the Associated Press released its preseason poll ahead of the 2022 college football season, and Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies came in at No. 6.

The Aggies are among three Southeastern Conference teams inside the top-six, joining No. 1 Alabama and defending national champion Georgia, who comes in at No. 3. A total of six SEC programs are in the initial top-25 as Arkansas (No. 19), Kentucky (No. 20) and Ole Miss (No. 21) also appear in the AP’s preseason rankings. A&M’s Week 3 opponent, Miami comes in at No. 16.

A year ago, the AP ranked Texas A&M as the sixth-best team in the country in its 2021 preseason list, but hampered by injuries at key positions, the Aggies scuffled to an 8-4 record that included a memorable upset of then-top-ranked Alabama at Kyle Field on Oct. 9. A&M finished last season unranked, dropping out of the AP’s final poll after not playing in the Gator Bowl due to COVID-19 issues within the program.

In addition to being ranked sixth by the AP, the Aggies are also ranked No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The coaches also ranked the Aggies sixth ahead of the 2021 campaign.

Texas A&M begins the 2022 season on Sept. 3 against Sam Houston at Kyle Field.
