Texas A&M squeaked out a 3-2 win in Tuscaloosa as the Aggie bullpen did just enough to hold down the Alabama offense.
"The guys got the outs they needed to get," Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. "Friday night in the SEC, baby."
Tied 1-1, Brett Minnich's two-run homer down the right-field line in the sixth gave the Aggies the lead. He'd finish 2-for-4 and drove in all three of A&M's runs.
It ended up being all the Maroon & White needed.
"At the end of the day, a W in the win column is all that matters," Minnich said.

Nathan Dettmer collected seven strikeouts en route to his second win of the season.
Nathan Dettmer worked into the seventh and punched out Owen Diodati to begin the inning. However, back-to-back walks chased the right-hander.
Jacob Palisch got Bryce Eblin swinging for the second out, but a muffed comebacker and a bases-loaded walk trimmed the A&M lead to one before Schlossnagle called on Chris Cortez.
Needing to end the threat, Cortez induced a groundball to short, but Kole Kaler's throw sailed high. If not for a wonderful play by Jack Moss moving to the back of the bag to record the final out of the seventh, Alabama would have surely tied the contest.
Moss' brilliance preserved the lead. His defense was also on full display in the ninth when he scooped a Kaler throw for another crucial out.
Cortez ran into trouble in the eighth. With two on and two out, Brad Rudis trotted in from the bullpen. After a hard-luck infield single, Rudis sat down Eblin to end yet another bases-loaded jam.
"What an experience," Rudis said. "You dream about this kind of stuff in high school, and now that it's actually happening, it's a dream come true."
Rudis worked a perfect ninth to earn his second save of the year.
Early on, a win seemed improbable as Alabama starting pitcher Garrett McMillan kept A&M scoreless until Minnich tied the game in the fourth with a two-out RBI double.
McMillan racked up a career-high nine strikeouts in six innings of work as Alabama pitchers combined to strike out 14 Aggies.

Still, Dettmer was a tick better.
"I thought Dettmer was outstanding," Schlossnagle said.
The San Antonio kid allowed just one earned run on six hits in 6.1 innings while striking out seven. Dettmer did not issue a walk until the seventh when his pitch count was north of 90.
It was a much-needed bounce-back performance for Dettmer, who earned his first victory since Opening Day.
"It's been a while since we've had a legit Friday-night starter, and I thought Dettmer gave us that," Schlossnagle said.
The win puts A&M in a more comfortable position as Schlossnagle can decide when to throw traditional Saturday starter Micah Dallas following his relief appearance on Tuesday night at No. 8 Texas.
Texas A&M and Alabama continue their three-game set on Saturday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. CT.
