Micah Dallas named SEC co-Pitcher of the Week after dominant start vs. Penn
The SEC agrees: Dallas is among the best.
Texas A&M junior right-handed pitcher Micah Dallas was named the Southeastern Conference’s co-Pitcher of the Week following a brilliant performance in the Aggies’ 5-0 victory over Penn on Sunday afternoon. Dallas tossed eight scoreless innings, striking out ten Quakers and allowing just two base runners.
Dallas shares the honors with Georgia’s Jonathan Cannon, who was equally as impressive across 8.1 shutout innings in Georiga’s 1-0 win over Akron on Friday night.
“It was all working pretty well for me, and I was able to get ahead with my fastball and my slider, too,” Dallas said postgame on Sunday. “I had a lot of confidence going in, and that kind of solidified it.”
Dallas racked up eight swing-and-miss punchouts and induced ten groundball outs, many of which came early in counts. He ultimately departed after throwing 97 pitches on the day.
The lone hit on Dallas’ ledger came on the first pitch of the game when Tommy Courtney singled to left. Penn’s only other baserunner was a Seth Werchan walk with one out in the third.
Aside from that, Dallas was perfect. In fact, following the Werchan free pass, Dallas retired the final 17 batters he faced.
On a weekend where A&M’s offense scuffled mightily, Dallas’ shutout could not be understated. However, the Aggie right-hander is confident that the bats will find their stride sooner rather than later.
“I do my game, regardless of how we’re hitting,” Dallas said. “Our guys are out there grinding. They’re working really hard, and it’s going to come around.”
As the starter in game one of a Sunday doubleheader, Dallas put the Aggies in an excellent position to take both ends by pitching deep into the opener, allowing the bullpen to remain fresh.
“I was trying to save some arms for the next game,” Dallas said. “I was able to do that. There wasn’t any extra pressure for that.”
With the victory, Dallas improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.63 on the season. He figures to start on Saturday night vs. Iowa in the Frisco Classic this weekend.
