Texas A&M defensive end Micheal Clemons suspended indefinitely

August 27, 2021

On Friday morning, a Texas A&M Athletics spokesman confirmed that Texas A&M defensive end Micheal Clemons has been suspended indefinitely from athletics activities following an arrest earlier in the week.

Clemons, a sixth-year senior from Garland, returned for another season at Texas A&M to better his draft prospects after missing the final five games of the 2020 season with an injury. In his five starts last year, Clemons made 14 tackles, including seven solo drops, and four sacks with 26 yards in losses. In three seasons with the Aggies, Clemons has accounted for 62 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He redshirted in 2018.

Clemons was arrested in Brazos County on Thursday, Aug. 26, and charged with the unlawful carrying of a weapon and a failure to identify with fugitive intent by providing false information. Clemons was also booked with carrying less than two ounces of marijuana.

Texas A&M is just eight days away from beginning the 2021 season, and Clemons was expected to be a starter at defensive end.

I was unaware 24 years old is a 'kid'. How hard is it to know what the rules are and follow them. I have no sympathy for the amount of dumb on athletic teams.
Maybe I should have said, I have no tolerance for just plain dumb.

Aggie football player arrested on drug, firearm charges (kbtx.com)

Clemons didn't get pulled over. His car got booted by campus parking, and UPD got called because he was trying to remove the boot himself, rather than, I don't know, dealing with parking and paying his fines.

When the cops arrived, he mis-identified himself. Not telling the cops the truth about your identity is never a good idea, but it's extra stupid for Clemons, since he's had multiple interactions with UPD and they know who he is.

Clemons had a warrant for Driving While License Invalid, and piled on with further bad choices by having weed in the vehicle along with a handgun.

Basically, it was a chain of bad decisions on Clemons' part.

NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

In real life cops let you go. B/CS Cops just like getting in the news. In several cities in Texas they just throw away marijuana and don't test it. B/CS using marijuana fines to help finance themselves.

Yep, let's focus on the cops. Here's a young man that's playing probably the most important football season of his life, and he can't stay away from the weed. Maybe he has decided to give up football to pursue his degree in medical marijuana.

I swear I'm convinced that athletes are the dumbest people on the planet. I've made it 45 years without getting arrested or doing drugs.

All of you guys need to chill 2 oz is not much just two pinches. These guys are targeted because of the nil deals going on and not to mention a future in the league. Thank the lord we didn't have social media in 80 and 90s. Hitting your head every time agains an unmovable object is crazy so I expect these kids to mess up time and time again . They are men /young adults and these are life lessons just move on.

College station cops what a joke..

"Two pinches"? Buahaha Have you ever seen 2 oz of weed? If he smokes blunts (cigar filled) then that's like 10plus per oz. hardly a pinch. That's like two big sacks of weed.

Jimbo Fisher made the right decision to suspend defensive end Michael Clemons. On 8/9, Clemons talked about coming back to win the national championship, but he could not even stay out of trouble. This is actually the 2nd time he has been arrested. On 5/18/21, he was arrested for driving with invalid or suspended drivers license. Yesterday, he was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon (Class A Misdemeanor), failure to identify or giving false information (Class A Misdemeanor), and possession of marijuana less than 2 oz (Class B Misdemeanor). Clemons is throwing away his time at Texas A&M and a future NFL career.

"causing or characterized by extreme distress or sorrow." that's the definition of tragic. So in this case this was tragic for this young man. It's embarrassing and look at you all. When he was putting his body on the line he was sent from the heavens but he falls from grace and you want to throw him away. He's a KID. By the way no need to try and insult my intelligence. I wasn't here for that. I was simply trying to explain how sad this situation is.

Oh please! This grown man is in his mid twenties. Stop with the "he's just a kid" bull*****

Hi there, first off, I echo your sentiments; it is truly sad, especially as a parent.

I do respectfully disagree that MC was not old enough to be held responsible for his actions. As a former JUCO who gain an extra year to play, I'n pretty sure he was the oldest player on the team (23-24 y.o). That's old enough to lead a squad in combat. A young man, yes, but a MAN nonetheless.

Going back to your first comment, I'm confused. Are you implying that the university and/or coaches failed to teach him right from wrong?

Exactly, he is now 24 years old. Yes, he is young, but there is a substantial difference between 18/19 and 23/24 years old. That is old enough to be a staff sergeant in the Army or at least a sergeant. Of course, there are first time military recruits of different ages. After 4.5 years in the Army, I was finally promoted to Sergeant on 12/1/2010, just over a month before I turned 24, and I was in the middle of my 2nd deployment to Iraq. Even by traditional civilian standards, most people are between 22 to 24 years old when they complete their undergraduate degree. Therefore, Michael Clemons is old enough to know right from wrong.

They don't fault the cops just make sure you do it all the time agains every race not just when you see someone driving a car that you can't afford, wearing clothes , jewelry or with a girl you can't get. Salt life is what they are feeling.
How about just not driving around with weed and a gun and lying to the cops?
That's not the behavior of a productive individual. And here we are accusing the police of profiling in his defense.

The kid has the world at his feet and has been give more opportunity than 99% of the other "students" at A&M.
Sorry, I don't feel bad for people that don't take advantage of those opportunities.

Not at all.. I'm not blaming anyone. I was disagreeing with the people who were saying let him play or the cops were wrong. I believe he should be punished. A lesson should be taught. I could care less about the football part of it. I want him to understand that this is not ok. That goes for every player on that team. If it was my son I would want him severely punished. If that means getting sent home so be it

I was in the military, with a wife and 2 children at that age. Now as a 38 year old I realize as a 24 year old I didn't know much lol. Like I said I hope he learns from this mistake

I would argue that Jimbo demands more discipline from his players than any other coach. You think life skills and discipline aren't part of becoming a great athlete? At some point that athlete has to calculate the cost of success and give up childish behavior. Point is, that decision lies with the athlete.

It's one thing to pull an Art Briles or Joe Pa and cover up scandal. It's another thing to ask your coaches to be their parents away from home. MC is suspended, and our locker room is right where it should be.

Some people think he shouldn't come back. That's a tough call since the incident occurred off the field. If the concern is rewarding bad behavior, believe me, his potential draft stock just took a huge dive.

Saban said it better than anyone else, an NFL head coach doesn't want to spend millions of dollars on a liability. MC may play another snap of college football, but he has immensely stacked the odds against his favor for future success.

So you are a 38-year-old veteran with a son playing on the squad right now? Very curious who you are, but thank you for your service. You have obviously done well for yourself.

It starts with having a mother and a father who has taught their child from the beginning about discipline, accountability, limits, etc. Obvious in this case something was missing.

Why did they search the car, if he wasn't in the car? Good lawyer should get the last 2 charges reduced. Sounds like unreasonable search and seizure.

Can you get a DWI if you are drunk trying to tamper with the boot too?

If you read the KBTX story, they searched the car because they smelled weed.

Drunk and messing with the boot would get you PI, not DWI.

That's what I'm saying. My son plays on the team. Since when did winning football games become more important to us than developing these kids into MEN. I want my son to leave a better man than he was when he got there. Football will take care of itself. While this is tragic for this young man it is a life lesson. That he will definitely learn from. It will make him a better HUSBAND, FATHER, MAN!!!! Which is what I thought A&M was about anyway

I am surprised big schools like A&M don't have training and mentorship on these matters before they start.
Most of these kids grow up in households with no dads so the neighborhood thug is like a father figure. Things go downhill from there on.

If he does come back I will cheer for him. I will hope he learns from this. But I can still shake my head and post what a dumb ass he is.

The overall tone is not hate, it's frustration. We want these young men to succeed as much as the team. However, they do stuff they know they shouldn't hurting themselves and the team.

No I agree, I don't think it all falls on Jimbo, it's a mindset that every member of the team has and hold each other accountable, that in my opinion works best

So if you walk by any car that smells like weed, you are allowed to search? Must have been some really good weed too!

He ****ed up, they possibly took advantage of his lack of understanding his rights. Not defending his actions, but his life should be ruined by weed and a gun.

Keep in mind these kids at this level have likely been coddled all their lives, and discipline has likely to have been lax.

And they are kids.

Sounds like a series of stupidly poor decisions. And instead of taking responsibility on the 1st or 2nd one, he added further stupidly poor decisions on top to try to escape responsibility.
