During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the Olympics, the gridiron and beyond as Texas A&M Athletics get ramped up for 2021-22 this week.
Olympics
On Friday night, Khris Middleton and USA Basketball defeated France in the Gold medal match, 87-82.
- Middleton scored four points, one rebound and one assist in over 10 minutes of action.
- By winning the gold, Middleton completes an impressive double, winning an NBA Championship and Olympic Gold less than a month apart.
On Saturday, two Aggies ran on the United States’ relay teams that took gold in Tokyo.
- Athing Mu ran anchor for Team USA’s women’s 4x400m relay team along with Sydney McLaughlin, Allyson Felix and Dalilah Muhammad.
- The Americans ran the fifth-fasted time in world history, running 3:16.85, nearly four seconds faster than silver medalists Poland.
- Mu ran a 48.32 split, which is in the top ten in world history.
- In winning her second gold in Tokyo, Mu became just the first Olympian in 33 years to win two golds before turning 20. Fellow American Steve Lewis was the last to do it at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
- Bryce Deadmon ran the third leg for Team USA’s men’s 4x400m relay team along with Michael cherry, Micheal Norman and Benjamin Rai.
- The Americans ran the fourth-fastest time ever at 2:55.70.
- Deadmon posted a 44.01 split.
- Gold in the 4x400m Relay is the United States’ only men’s gold medal in a track discipline at the 2020 Olympics.
FIVE Aggies medaled at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, bringing home a total of seven medals.

Football
Fall Camp began on Friday afternoon, and the Aggies are currently three practices in.
Fall Camp continues on Monday, but Practice #4 is closed to the media.
Soccer
It’s match week! Texas A&M Athletics returns this week as Aggie soccer returns to the pitch on Wednesday.
- Texas A&M travels to Denton for an exhibition match against North Texas. Kickoff time has not yet been announced.
- A&M’s first regular-season game will be on Aug. 19 at No. 1 Florida State.
Volleyball
The Aggies reported on Sunday, and their first day of practice is set for Monday, Aug. 9.
- The media will get to attend practice this afternoon and speak with coach Bird Kuhn as well as a couple of players. All of that volleyball content will be on TexAgs.com later today.
Aggie Volleyball will begin their season with an exhibition match on Aug. 20 against Baylor in Bryan-College Station.
- The regular season begins Aug. 27 against Marquette in Hawaii.
Men’s Golf
Sam Bennett, Walker Lee and William Paysse will be playing in the 121st U.S. Amateur at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA and the Longue Vue Club in Verona, PA.
- The first round of stroke play begins on Monday morning.
- Monday Schedule: Bennett (8:10 a.m. CT) and Lee (11:45 a.m.) at Oakmont; Paysse (12:15 p.m.) at Longue Vue
- Tuesday Schedule: Paysse (6:40 a.m.) at Oakmont; Lee (6:50 a.m.) and Bennett (1:45 p.m.) at Longue Vue.
- The 121st U.S. Amateur concludes with match play, with the Round of 64 on Wednesday.
- Each day of match play will be televised on Peacock and the Golf Channel, with the Semifinals and Championship Match being aired on NBC on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Softball
On Friday, Jo Evans announced that former Texas A&M softball player Adrian Gregory has returned to the program and will serve as the Aggies’ volunteer assistant coach.
- Gregory will focus on coaching outfielders as well as assisting in all facets of the defense. She’ll also assist with hitters, working primarily with the slappers.
- From 2015-2020, Gregory was the head coach at Texas Tech and compiled a 157-147 record.
- Gregory was a four-year starter at A&M from 2002-05 and was a two-time captain. In 2004, she earned first-team All-Big 12 honors.
Men’s Tennis
On Wednesday, Steve Denton and the Aggies released their 2021-22 schedule.
- The season begins with the Midland Invitational, Sept. 10-12. UCLA, Arizona and Texas Tech will also at that tournament.
- A&M will play in the UTR Pro Tournament at the Mitchell Tennis Center, Sept. 19-26.
- The schedule includes 20 teams from last year’s NCAA Tournament, nine Sweet Sixteen teams, four quarterfinal teams and three semifinal teams.
