2022 Ponchatoula (LA) five-star S Jacoby Mathews signs with Texas A&M

Jimbo Fisher has reeled in a big one today as Ponchatoula (LA) safety Jacoby Mathews‍ has signed with Texas A&M.

Widely considered one of the top overall defensive prospects in the country, Mathews chooses the Aggies over finalists Florida and LSU, and he held offers from schools across the country.

A one-time LSU commit, Mathews brings a rare blend of size and speed to the back end of the defense. He is extremely physical and should provide some uneasy crossing routes for opposing wide receivers. Mathews has played all over the field as a high school prospect and has flashed elite playmaking traits on the offensive side of the ball as well. Long, rangy and very athletic, Mathews checks every box (and then some) when you’re talking about an SEC West defender.

Mathews joins Denver Harris‍, Deyon Bouie‍, Bryce Anderson‍, Bobby Taylor‍ and Jarred Kerr‍ in one of the nation’s best defensive back recruiting classes, and he is the 29th commitment in Texas A&M’s historic 2022 recruiting class.
