During Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio, Richard Zane joined to take us Around Aggieland and provided updates from the diamonds, the pitch and beyond following a busy weekend for the Maroon & White.


New First Lady of Aggieland
During Friday’s Corps of Cadets Final Review, eight-year-old Reveille IX officially retired, and Reveille X became the 10th mascot of Texas A&M University.

  • Born in September of 2019, Reveille X was donated to the university by Juelle Collies of Topeka, Kansas - the same breeder that donated Reveille VIII to Texas A&M. Reveille X has been preparing for the role since February by shadowing Reveille IX.
  • Reveille IX will retire to Stevenson Companion Animal Life-Care Center in College Station, where she’ll live a comfortable retirement.
  • Mascot Corporal Lucas Scroggins of Little Elm will accompany Reveille X.

Soccer (12-3, 7-1 in SEC play)
#7 Texas A&M blanked South Florida, 2-0, in second-round action of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament on Friday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina.

  • Freshman midfielder Barbara Olivieri scored twice for the Aggies to notch her second brace of the season. Olivieri scored via a penalty kick in the 49th minute to open the scoring before adding an insurance goal in the 65th minute off an assist from freshman Laney Carroll.
  • Sophomore keeper Kenna Caldwell made five saves in the shutout, registering her seventh clean sheet of the season.
  • With the victory, Texas A&M advances to the program’s 16th all-time Sweet Sixteen.

A&M will face #10 Oklahoma State (13-3-1, 6-2-1) in third-round action on Wednesday, May 5. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT in Cary, North Carolina. The match will be streamed for free on NCAA.com.

  • The Cowgirls took care of South Alabama, 7-0, in the second round.
  • Since 1996, Texas A&M is 16-1-4 vs. Oklahoma State. The sides have not met since September of 2017.

Football
Four Texas A&M products heard their names called during the 2021 NFL Draft this weekend.

Following the conclusion of the 259-pick selection process, five Aggies signed as Undrafted Free Agents with NFL franchises.

  • OL Ryan McCollum signed with Houston.
  • OL Carson Green signed with Houston.
  • OL Jared Hocker signed with Seattle.
  • WR Jhamon Ausbon signed with Philadelphia.
  • LB Anthony Hines signed with Dallas.

Softball (31-17, 8-13 in SEC play)
Texas A&M concluded their home schedule this weekend as the Aggies were swept by No. 17 Kentucky at Davis Diamond.

  • Friday: No. 17 Kentucky 5, Texas A&M 1
  • Saturday: No. 17 Kentucky 2, Texas A&M 1 (8 innings)
    • Haley Lee hit her 22 home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
  • Sunday: No. 17 Kentucky 5, Texas A&M 1
    • After Sunday’s contest, Texas A&M softball honored Dani Elder, Gabby Moreno, Kayla Poynter and Ashlynn Walls during a Senior Day ceremony.

The Aggies conclude the regular season this weekend as they travel to Gainesville to face No. 3 Florida.

Baseball (24-22, 5-16 in SEC play)
Texas A&M was swept this weekend by No. 6 Mississippi State in Starkville in front of capacity crowds at Dudy Noble Field.

  • Friday: No. 6 Mississippi State 8, Texas A&M 7 (12 innings)
    • Brett Minnich hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh.
    • Bryce Blaum hit a two-run home run in the seventh, staking A&M to a 7-3 lead.
    • The Aggie bullpen couldn’t hold a four-run lead as Chandler Jozwiak allowed three runs in the seventh and Joseph Menefee allowed one run in the ninth.
    • Alex Magers suffered the loss as Tanner Allen hit a walk-off homer in the 12th.
  • Saturday (Game 1): No. 6 Mississippi State 3, Texas A&M 2
    • Austin Bost hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
  • Saturday (Game 2): No. 6 Mississippi State 10, Texas A&M 5
    • Due to the threat of inclement weather in Starkville on Sunday afternoon, the series finale was moved to Saturday as the Aggies and Bulldogs played a traditional split doubleheader.
    • A&M jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second, but Mississippi State tied the game in the bottom of the inning.
    • Leading 5-3, Mississippi State scored four runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Texas A&M plays their final midweek contest of the year on Tuesday night as the Aggies face Texas-Arlington in Arlington at Globe Life Field, the new home of the Texas Rangers.

Track & Field
Rain on Saturday brought an early end to the Alumni Muster meet at E.B. Cushing Stadium in Bryan-College Station.

  • Only eight of the 38 events were completed, so the meet does not count as an official meet.
  • The event will not be rescheduled.

Texas A&M will run in the Aggie Invitational on Saturday, May 8, at E.B. Cushing Stadium.

  • The meet will begin at 6:30 p.m. CT and will stream on SEC Network+.

Men’s Tennis (16-8, 7-5 in SEC play)
No. 8 Texas A&M awaits their NCAA Tournament destination, with the event set to begin on May 7.

  • The NCAA Selection Show is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Monday, May 3, steaming live on NCAA.com.
  • The first two rounds will be held at campus sites before the Sweet Sixteen moves to Orlando, Florida.

Women’s Tennis (19-7, 9-4 in SEC play)
No. 10 Texas A&M awaits their NCAA Tournament destination, with the event set to begin on May 7.

  • The NCAA Selection Show is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Monday, May 3, steaming live on NCAA.com.
  • The first two rounds will be held at campus sites before the Sweet Sixteen moves to Orlando, Florida.

Men’s Golf
The Aggies now await their postseason destination as NCAA Regionals are to be announced next week.

  • The 2021 NCAA Men’s Division I Championship field will be announced on Wednesday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. CT on GOLF Channel.
