2022 The Woodlands linebacker Martrell Harris commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M has landed a verbal commitment from The Woodlands LB Martrell Harris‍ — a rangy, long athlete with a great frame and super high ceiling.

Harris becomes the Aggies’ eighth member of the 2022 class, and he joins a large contingent of A&M commits from the greater Houston area to continue the Maroon & White’s hot streak in H-Town. He’s the first linebacker commit for Tyler Santucci this cycle, as well. 

Harris, who camped in College Station two summers ago, had to sit out his sophomore season due to a transfer from Grand Oaks. However, he was sensational in each and every camp appearance during that span though and jumped on everyone’s radar due to his combination of size and athleticism.

His junior season was cut short after he had an upper-body injury about halfway through the season. You can view his highlight tape below.

Martrell chooses Texas A&M over Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Arizona State, Baylor and others.

His composite rating on 247 is 0.8892 = 3-star
I think 4-star starts at 0.89
I would imagine with his limited playing time that a strong senior season would boost him up to a 4-star.

It seems that most of the 3-stars that Jimbo offers are around a 0.88 on 247.

The 247 bio said he was only able to play 3 varsity games his Jr year. I read that as he earned a star per game. He'll break the recruiting scale if he puts in a full season next year.

Hopefully, this case ends up illustrating the difference between a real personnel man and rating services. It sets up perfectly:

-was supposedly great in camps
-sat soph year for a transfer
-played 3 games jr year before a freak injury
-jimbo offered based on just 3 games and camps
-most of the BDF also saw his potential and offered

Yes, I believe he played JV as a sophomore but I don't think the recruiting services really evaluate JV tape.

In the past, I used to cringe at statements like this, because 99% of the time it meant that was all we could get, but not with this coaching staff.

He did that with Hunter Eb. Erb then earned his ranking.

As a high 4 star.
