Aggie Softball sweeps both games of doubleheader, 11-3, 9-5

The Aggies had another doubleheader Saturday as they took on Boston College and old Big 12 rival Texas Tech in the season-opening Aggie Classic Tournament. The Ags ended up winning both games, beating Boston College 11-3 in 5 innings thanks to the mercy rule, and defeating Texas Tech 9-5 in come-from-behind fashion.

The story of the day was the Aggies prolific offense. Over the course of the doubleheader the Aggies scored 20 runs off of 14 hits, including three homers.

The Aggies defeated Boston College convincingly after letting them hang around for 3 innings. They put up six runs in the 4th inning, all of which came with two outs. The Ags followed this trend of a few quiet innings with one breakout inning. Texas Tech had a five-run lead until the Ags scored four in the third inning and broke it wide open with five runs in the sixth inning.

Although most of the team was looking pretty good offensively for both games, senior first baseman Tori Vidales might have been the hero of the day. She hit a walk-off homer to end the first game against Boston College and then hit a go-ahead single up the middle in the bottom of the sixth to give the Ags their first lead of the Texas Tech game. Vidales would end the doubleheader with six RBIs and that game-ending homer.

Some other Aggies had great days too. Junior Riley Sartain hit a homer in the first game and then turned around and drove in three more runs the very next inning. While senior catcher Ashley Walters hit a home run of her own and drove in two runs that would help seal the deal against Texas Tech.

The Aggies are back at it tomorrow at 12:15pm vs Houston, for their last game of the Aggie Classic. You can watch the game on SEC+.

Loved the reaction of the Tech pitcher when Ashley hit her bomb. Thought we got the benefit of a lot of close plays this weekend.
