Texas A&M Baseball cracks D1Baseball's preseason top ten
Following a College World Series run last year, Texas A&M is once again expected to be near the top of college baseball during its 2018 campaign. D1Baseball released its preseason top 25 on Tuesday, ranking the Aggies as the No. 10 squad in the nation.
A&M, which finished last season ranked eighth in The Official Baseball Poll of TexAgs™, returns plenty of talent from its CWS team, including star infielder Braden Shewmake and senior pitchers Kaylor Chafin and Cason Sherrod.
As always, the Southeastern Conference is well-represented in the poll, claiming five of the top 10 spots and placing eight teams in the top 16 to begin the year.
Defending national champion Florida takes the country's top spot and is followed by fourth-ranked Arkansas. Kentucky, Ole Miss and Texas A&M round out the top 10's final three spots. Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and LSU come in at Nos. 12, 14 and 16, respectively.
Texas A&M begins its 2018 run on Friday, February 16, at Olsen Field against Rhode Island, the beginning of a nine-game homestand to start the season.
The Aggies will then travel across Texas for the Frisco College Baseball Classic and return home for six more games before the start of SEC play.
