Logan Taylor on Golden Spikes Award watchlist after cut to 30
College baseball's version of the Heisman has trimmed its watchlist from 60 to 30, and an Aggie is among them — the one who converted to left field before the season after playing infield and batting .269 in 2014.
Junior Logan Taylor is one of seven SEC players on the list after playing a significant part in A&M's offensive resurgence this season, batting .377 with 10 home runs, 44 RBI and a 1.078 OPS in the heart of the order for a 41-7 team.
Taylor is hitting for a .414 average in SEC play.
He's also adjusted to his new position with improved play in the field, including a key putout from left in the first inning of the final game of the LSU series.
The Golden Spikes watchlist is a rolling list, with players able to play themselves not just out of but also into consideration with each successive cut. Taylor was in fact one of nine players not present on the 60-man list to be included on the new 30-man one.
The SEC placed seven players on the list, the most of any conference by three. Current national No. 1 LSU had three players — pitcher Alex Lange, shortstop Alex Bregman and catcher Kade Scivicque — featured, which led all teams.
Vanderbilt and Arizona each had two.
The Golden Spikes Award semifinalists will be named on May 22, at which point a week of voting will begin and finalists will be named on June 2. The winner will be named on June 23.
