Just an example of highly contagious but no deaths. Typical cold season virus now.

Wife and all our friends got a really bad cold during thanksgiving that spread as bad or worse than omicron. Sick for over a week. How would the infection graphs have looked for that cold?

Is Covid finally over?

It certainly appears that way, and let's hope so!

In addition to less death, I'm looking forward to less regulations, end of Covid vaccine mandates, and no more canceled sporting events.

Haven't you been paying attention? Doctors have different opinions depending on which one you ask. According to you, I'm not supposed to listen to my doctor who prescribed me hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin.

Started feeling bad last night, massive headache and light chills. Tested positive today. This is now my second go round with covid and the symptoms are way less than last time I had in in February. Have spent the entire morning washing And waxing my truck.

What really sucks is I was supposed to be in Cabo tomorrow sippin margaritas with friends and family. Just had to cancel everything because of the covid sniffles.

I had a similar situation, I was supposed to fly to Mexico on Christmas Day but I went to get tested the night before because I had a cough and the sniffles. I tested positive. I feel great now but I cancelled my trip due to the testing requirement to come back into the US.

What id like to l know is if prior infection if causing this to be mild or it's just naturally more mild.

I guess it could be both, but it looks good for hard hit areas with a large amount of immunity/ vaccinated.

There are actual doctors who are starting to view it this way. And it's not politics to state that actual virus gives natural immunity and natural immunity is usually as good if not better than vaccines.

Positive per PCR test…

In July 2021, CDC issued a Press Release announcing it intended to drop its FDA EUA for PCR test effective 12/31/2021. It implied in the PR that this PCR test could not differentiate between COVID-19 and influenza.

Two questions:
1. Is this PCR test the one being used to provide government statistics regarding "positives"?
2. If a widely used test, does this help to explain the historically low flu season in 2020/2021?

just anecdotal for you......no vax here & no previous infection either, Omicron was super duper mild for me. Never even had a fever.

"Drowning" in covid? Really?

First, this type of rhetoric has to stop. It is fueling the psychosis.

Second, hospitals made the decision to terminate doctors and nurses, otherwise healthy and capable of performing their jobs, in light of pressure of the unlawful OSHA mandate. Did those same hospitals require vaccination once it became available/approved for emergency use or only after talk of the mandate/EO?

Third, natural immunity is best immunity.

IT'S OFFICIALLY JUST A COLD!

Between Dec. 13 and Dec. 20, Denmark reported approximately 50,000 confirmed Omicron cases. Given the approximately one-week lag between infection and hospitalization, those people should be flooding into hospitals.

EXCEPT THE NUMBER OF OMICRON PATIENTS IN DANISH HOSPITALS HAS NOT RISEN IN THE LAST WEEK.

The question is no longer whether Omicron is a cold. It's whether it's as dangerous as a cold. (And, again, this has nothing to do with Covid vaccines; most South Africans are not vaccinated, and the pattern there was the same.)

The only sane political move at this point is to drop ALL mandates - vaccine and otherwise - and ALL asymptomatic or quarantine testing (dropping all non-hospital testing would be even better) - and declare victory and go home. Even if the country weren't burned out on scare stories and sick of being lied to, the reality of these figures is already obvious to most people. (Including LeBron James.)

I saw an explanation by a doc or hospital executive from Indiana, I believe, who explained that those hospitalization utilization numbers by themselves are misleading. For example, there are two kinds of beds in the ICU, one for chronic patients such as Covid patients and another for patients who come out of surgery or the ER. The hospitals have to reserve some beds for the latter category, so it never looks like they're completely full, even as they're stacking Covid patients in the hallways and ER. They're being forced to use the ER in lieu of the ICU for many Covid patients.

Yeah one of the 4 TexAgs dudes who was in the hospital at around the same time ran into this when they put him in an ER bed when he was in ICU.

Those suckers are EXTREMELY uncomfortable as they're not made for long term use.

As far as South Africa and Denmark are concerned (who are several weeks ahead of us as far as the Omicron surge is concerned) they did not experience an increase in hospitalizations despite a huge increase in cases. There is no evidence that this surge is resulting in a large increase in hospitalizations. This is being repeated in country after country.

The 12/27 statewide COVID ICU usage of 1,030 beds is about 1/4 of the ICU usage of the most recent peaks. We could eventually reach the previous peaks due to Omicron's Ro, but as of now, it appears no region of the state is close to drowning in COVID patients relative to previous peaks.

It's interesting that in Denmark, while there were 50,000 positive tests the week before, there was no change in hospitalizations. Admissions have risen slightly, but patients are being discharged as fast as they are being admitted indicating that the cases were not severe lower respiratory cases.

The result: as of Dec. 21, Danish hospitals had 47 Omicron patients, with under five (the report is not more specific) in intensive care. As of Dec. 27, the hospitals had 51 Omicron patients, again with under five in intensive care.

Yeah, some places are still seeing increases in hospitalization from Delta. Rural areas, for example, have not yet been hit by Omicron. So some places may be "drowning" in Covid patients whereas other places may not be.

And I'd rather take the testimony of a doctor who works in a hospital over someone working in an office building with no firsthand experience. If a doc says his hospital(s) are drowning, he's probably telling the truth as he sees and experiences it.

But Omicron does appear to be giving everyone great reason for hope.

I apologize for my rhetoric.

To give you a more objective measurement. My colleague in one of our community hospitals nearby was telling me 13 out of 20 ER beds were COVID patients 2 nights ago. 10 out of those 13 had been admitted due to oxygen requirements(or something else they couldn't be discharged with), however were being boarded in the ER due to no beds in the hospital. There were 6 additional hallway beds, and the waiting room had about 20 people in it.

I do not know how many of the inpatient beds were COVID at that particular snapshot in time.

Contrast that to another hospital nearby, and the other night they had lots of COVID patients coming through, but only a handful were sick enough to be admitted, and they only had 1 or 2 boarding overnight. But they are also a significantly larger hospital (up to 60+ bed ER at peak times) that just finished an expansion and hired a bunch of nurses.

One of the college station Docs is saying it's 90% of the cases. Most other countries are also reporting it has taken over as the main strain. The CDC has lost all credibility for me, they are a political animal.
