Anybody else seeing massive youth positive cases increasing in your areas?

We have seen no less than 20 positive in a very small group of youth friends this week. (10-16 yrs old). I'm just assuming omicron.

It's rampant in the middle and high schools where I am. Kind of makes sense. The younger kids just got vaccinated and the adults got boosters. The 12-17 year old kids got their shots 7 months ago.

Nobody with more than a mild cold, but a positive test still ruins holiday plans.

Why? Who is getting tested with a mild cold?

I wouldn't cancel plans if my kids didn't have a fever.

Can't really fly with a positive test, symptoms or not.

I don't think we should be testing vaccinated people with no symptoms, but there is still a lot of that going on, and a lot of rules to follow if it's positive.

Assuming omicron is as mild as it seems, a lot of that will change, but not in time for Christmas.

Why would someone need to test to fly? I've flown multiple times and didn't need to test.

Oh, there are still those out there that will put their life on hold for a sniffle or two. One such person I know is sitting at the side of a hospital bed in Denver because their 1st grader had a major seizure and stroke about 24 hours after the vaccine (but the seizure/stroke is DEFINITELY not related to the vaccine).

I'm with you...we won't cancel plans for anything outside of major coughing or fever (which my very active kids have had neither of). My 1st grader is finally getting over about a 4 week sniffle fest, didn't miss a day of school because of it.

My 17-yr-old woke up Monday morning with typical viral symptoms - fever (100.8), headache, sore throat. Normally, I would not have thought twice about not seeing a doctor and just keeping her home until her fever was gone. But she works part-time at Whataburger and they wanted a doctor's note, especially since it was just a couple hours before her shift was scheduled to start. Her symptoms definitely did not warrant a trip to the pediatrician so I took her for a walk-up COVID test to prove she was negative and could go back to work the following day. The PCR test was positive, so at least she doesn't have to work Christmas Eve. Thankfully, her symptoms are still mild and her fever is gone.

International flights? Passengers need a negative next within 24 hours of returning to the US.

The more kids that can acquire immunity naturally, the better.

Anyone testing their asymptomatic child has no one to blame but the person in the mirror for any change of plans.

Sir, are you new here?
It's not the severity of the punishment that deters crime; it's the certainty of it.

Depends where you are going. When I flew to Cancun in October they required a negative test for arrival and the USA required a negative test to come back.

Has that changed? It was 72 hours in March and again in June.

As KidDoc has mentioned multiple times with the kids in his area, I think Delta swept through most of the schools here in Dallas earlier this fall. The most recent release by Dallas County has school age kids at their lowest proportion of the cases since this summer. It's the working population now that is bearing the brunt of the local cases.

So what? Children and teenagers are at the lowest possible risk of COVID. This is not something we should be worried about. Everyone is going to get it sooner or later anyway.
