Do we know if that number is just those who have tested positive? It sounds like the number of incidental COVID patients in the hospital is pretty high with Omicron.
On SA study was, I think, 78% incidental Covid positive. Meaning they were at hospital for a different reason but tested positive and didn't know they were positive.
Hospitalizations in the US are dropping faster than ever before in the pandemic. The last 9 days have broken the previous records of, you guessed it, exactly 1 year ago.

The average new cases has been drop by about 1,000 every 2 days. I would expect it to start plateauing soon.
New York was about a week or two ahead of us on the Omicron wave. Their cases continue to drop, although the rate of drop has slowed some. They are down to a 7 day average of 3,000 cases per day, with 2,300 new cases yesterday. So hopefully we won't plateau until we reach at least those low of numbers.SwigAg11 said:

CDC data just updated. Looks like the US #Covid19 positive testing percentage dropped below 3% this past weekend. The only time we've seen sub-3% during the pandemic was for 7 weeks from May 18 to July 5, 2021 (during the pre-Delta lull).
