Apologies if this question has been covered in detail previously on the board--I looked through a handful of the different messages and didn't see an answer.

TL;DR - for mild COVID cases, how long after the initial positive test did it take to test negative?

Longer story..
My wife is currently traveling abroad for work (EU) and asked me to come along for a week- against my better judgment, I decided to make the trip. Although testing negative leaving the US, I came up with minor symptoms (headache, cold and lost sense of smell) on trip day 4. It wasn't until day 5 (symptoms day 2) that I was able to take a test, which came back positive and initiated what will be up to 21 days of quarantine. I was fully vaccinated back in April. Luckily, wife has tested negative and no symptoms, although she still has to quarantine as a close contact.

The protocols for testing and release from quarantine are pretty basic- I get one PCR test, 7 days after the initial positive test; if that is negative I can leave, but if positive I remain in quarantine for another week and repeat the process.

Today is symptoms day 3 and I am already feeling better than yesterday (I took the vitamin D hammer yesterday and my symptoms weren't really that bad to begin with). I am curious what the experience has been with those with other minor covid cases (how long did it take symptoms to end and to test negative?) If I will likely be here for the 21 full days, I will have to go ahead and cancel some trip plans in mid-November while I can still get a partial refund. Thanks in advance for your perspective!

Sorry to hear this! I knew I had a mild case and tested positive on day 2. Felt much better on day 10 and got retested. STILL POSITIVE. The doctor said I was just shedding old virus and released me to go back to normal activities on day 11, which I did. Never went back to test again.
