What emergency is there for kids to get this vaccine?

There is no emergency for healthy kids and thus, no defense.

The real problem is what policy makers choose to do with the eua. I anticipate their actions will be fueled by fear and optics instead of any real concern for children. Never been more thankful for our private Christian school.

Kids typically don't die from chicken pox, but we vaccinate against that too.

If the Pfizer vaccine were shown to be good a spread prevention then I could see this, bit given it is not great at spread prevention I really do not see the point, especially on an emergency authorization basis.

Why do we then?? I didn't have a chicken pox Vax. I got it and survived

We don't vaccinate to save kids from chicken pox.

Really??? You're comparing the chickenpox vaccine that took ~20 years to be authorized for use to that of the COVID vaccine for EUA use after less than a year???

Only took about 30 years from starting on the vax to FDA approval.

This. SO MUCH, this...why half of the population can't make the logical connection here, i'll never understand.

I'll get my child vaccinated. I'm not concerned about death or hospitalization from COVID, but I am more concerned about cognitive deficits and long haul symptoms from COVID.

Getting a healthy child vaccinated against Covid is lunacy.

Arguments like this must be why I have heard parents saying that not only are they not going to vaccinate their kids for covid, but are now questioning whether or not they want to get their kids vaccines that have been around for a while.

Unintended consequence from months of poorly conceived and communicated standards by healthcare officials.

eta: Its come as no suprise to me if parents that would have been on the fence 5 years ago in questioning the CDC vaccine schedule for grade school-aged kids, may now fall well into the delay or reject category.

Following the purge, I'll generalize this:

As a parent, my responsibility to my child includes physical health and safety against known and unknown risks.

The fear for childrens' safety from Covid is now exclusively the hypothetical "long-haul" risks that their less severe infections shouldn't put them at risk for. The unknowns of the vaccine(s) throughout their future development are legitimate unknowns.

I can't wrap my head around how a parent volunteers their healthy kid to be a guinea pig when the risk is statistically nothing but potential downside.

Hopefully we're all laughing in a few decades about how overly-cautious folks like me are regarding their kids and current affairs rather than talking about a vaccine-induced developmental issue. But I'm not offering up my kid as the first to frolic through the minefield.

Probably because they know it's safe and who takes care of sick kids? Parents who must miss work. It's about the trickle down effect and it's safe so why not allow the choice?

Probably the same reason the other half the population doesn't realize the sheer magnitude of number of people available to be vaccinated and studied has allowed enough information to be available to make decisions quickly. Times change.

The vaccine caused >104 degree fever in 2% of the kids, that is overwhelmingly worse than if a child gets covid.

For many parents, taking time off from work isn't easy. Perhaps paying the bills is emergent for many. It is like chicken pox for many parents, it's hard to miss work but someone must when kids are out of school or daycare so if a safe vaccine exists, it makes sense for many families.

It's a choice parents will make. I don't know, how many died?

Lrss than 0.0000% of that age group have died of covid. 2% of that age group.is half a million, how many kids will die from high fever from the shot. I'm willing to bet more than 0.0000%

Well zero deaths for that age range is complete bs so no point continuing here.

Who said that? You? Spoken like someone who has never missed work to care for a sick kid. It is indeed a fact a child can not go to school with Covid and it is a fact Covid keeps a kid out of school for a week+. Someone (likely Mom) is staying home to care for that kid. It can be a problem some will choose to avoid.

You're really going with a few days of normal parenting complication as a justification for FDA Emergency Authorization of a new drug to inject children with no long term studies?

Let's all be adults here and admit they issued the EA because they wanted to.

Soooo… 2/1,000,000 is worthy of an EUA authorization? What about a parent missing work constitutes an EMERGENCY??

Lasted like 2 days.

There is plenty of information on how the vaccine works (consequently the lack of long term effects) if you are willing process it.

Why do any of you care what others choose to do? You're all about personal choice and liberty but freak out a vaccine becomes available as a choice?

So your school district allowed your kid to miss 2 days of school only? You guys are having a hard time following here, nobody said your kid was feeling the physical symptoms, simply that someone must stay with that child for what, 7-10 days?

Because personal choice is being stripped away from us at every turn and this is a step in trying to strip it away from parents. If you don't believe that they will push this on kids with a full approval, you're naive.

Funny how taking time off work isnt easy for some parents is a justification for the vaccine but also was dismissed entirely by many when we were closing schools and daycares.
