Who is closing down society at this point? No one if government is advocating locking anything down. And you know how we can keep things open? Getting the stupid shot.

There are plenty of people that want the government to shut things down or at least implement more restrictions again, and those are the people I'm referring to.

And it's wrong to hold normalcy hostage until people that don't need or want the shot get it. At that point it's about power, and nothing else.

It's clearly about saving lives and reducing the strain on our hospitals.

Who do you think is after power, what does that power look like practically, and do you think they're succeeding? I'm honestly wondering what logic goes into this claim, because on the surface it looks like conspiracy nonsense.
When I say "it's about power" I mean citizens wanting to coerce their neighbors into getting vaccinated because they are just so darn sure they're right. It doesn't matter that there's no reason to coerce or force an otherwise healthy 25 year old to get vaccinated, many people just want to feel that sense of power when they're able to pressure or force the 25 year old into doing it. It's pretty pathetic, but I believe it's why a lot of people are so supportive of the idea of vaccine passports or otherwise making life more intolerable for the dirty unvaccinated (i.e. holding normalcy hostage).

As for who's behind the messaging that gets citizens to turn on each other like that, it's the folks making all the money off getting as many people vaccinated as possible, whether it's an 85 year old that genuinely should be vaccinated or an otherwise healthy 25 year old that already has immunity from prior infection and gains effectively nothing from being vaccinated.

It's about money for the elites and power for the serfs.

Ok, so it's nonsense underneath the surface too.

I don't ask that people get vaccinated so that I can feel powerful. I do it because I believe, or at least hope, that every reassuring voice helps in the fight to get more people vaccinated. And the more people that are vaccinated, the less death and sickness we have, and the less strain we will put on hospitals.

This is such a sad story. But not gonna lie, it also makes me very angry. This man let his arrogance, irresponsibility, and selfishness trump the well-being of himself and his family. That is the real tragedy here.

I simply cannot imagine forgoing both the vaccine and treatment when you have an entire family who needs you. Now his 8 months pregnant wife is left to provide for their kids on her own, and now gets to take on a bunch of medical debt just because her late husband was too arrogant to take a vaccine or seek proper medical treatment when he needed it.

It's just insane to me. If he took the vax he'd almost certainly be here today. I'm not celebrating his death. That would be evil. This is tragic for him and his family. But dammit, this does make me angry.

It's great that you want to help people that are apprehensive about it gain confidence in it. You may not be one of the people I'm referring to. The people that I'm referring to are the ones that won't accept that some people aren't apprehensive about getting the vaccine, but that they just aren't interested in it, and want to make life intolerable for them until they submit.

The problem with this article and so much of what we hear about is lumping together people that oppose masks and closures with those opposing the vaccine. Only one of those is proven to work and that is the vaccine. I think most people are in the group that support vaccination but not the rest, yet we only hear about the extremes.

i think it's less people supporting/opposing masks/vaccines and mandating masks/vaccines.

I'm vaccinated, as is my wife. i've strongly encouraged people who have asked me my opinion (who were not vaccinated) to do so if their doctor thinks it's best

i hate masks and think outside of coughing and sneezing and/or being right around people for an extended period of time, they're fairly worthless. but our pastor and head of my kid's private school has politely asked for people to wear them during this surge and said there will be no shaming or "mandates."

so i can bear it for a bit.

i am however strongly against mandating or shaming people into either.

Honest question, I didn't see his vaccination status mentioned in the article. I read the article a few times, and of course noted that he "worked against COVID-19 measures", but not believing in masks mandates or lockdowns =/= unvaccinated or "anti-vax". Seems to me an article that was obviously painting a certain picture of the guy would have specifically mentioned his vax status or apparently very vocal beliefs on all things COVID related?

According to the reporting of San Angelo Live, he was NOT vaccinated.

Neither Caleb nor Russ were vaccinated and recent data shows that the vaccination may not stop a Covid-19 infection, but in most cases, it lessens the severity of the infection giving doctors a chance to arrest it.

Has nothing to do with what I believe is the most likely scenario,. Based on the rest of the article, if you don't think it's at least slightly odd that his vax status or feelings on the vax aren't specifically mentioned then so be it.

There's montages on the internet everywhere. I don't really care, my personal health decisions have zero to do with what Trump, Biden, Kamala or any other politician has said. I just find the implication that the libs are performing jedi mind tricks on the dumb anti vax neo cons to be fairly entertaining. The whole thing has been politicized, but it's not any one party's fault.

Harris was asked in a Sept. 6, 2020, interview whether she would take a vaccine if it was approved before the election. She replied:

"Well, I think that's going to be an issue for all of us. I will say that I would not trust Donald Trump. And it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he's talking about. I will not take his word for it. He wants us to inject bleach. I no, I will not take his word."

Harris was asked in an Oct. 7, 2020, vice presidential debate if she would take a vaccine if the Trump administration approved one. Referring to the leading government epidemiologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, she said:

"If the public health professionals, if Dr. Fauci, if the doctors tell us that we should take it, I'll be the first in line to take it. Absolutely. But if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I'm not taking it."

In campaign remarks on Sept. 7, 2020, Biden outlined steps he would take to address the pandemic, including masks and contact tracing, adding:

"Charting a clear path of science-based vaccines, free from politics. I get asked the question: 'If the president announced tomorrow we have a vaccine, would you take it?' Only if it was completely transparent, that other experts in the country could look at it, only if we knew all of what went into it. Because so far, nothing he's told us has been true."

The following week, Biden restated his concern about politics intervening in vaccine development:

"Americans have had to endure President Trump's incompetence and dishonesty, when it comes to testing and personal protective equipment. We can't afford to repeat those fiascos when it comes to a vaccine. Let me be clear: I trust vaccines, I trust scientists, but I don't trust Donald Trump, and at this moment, the American people can't either. Last week, Senator Harris and I laid out three questions this administration's going to have to answer to assure the American people that politics will not play a role whatsoever in the vaccine process. If Donald Trump can't give answers and the administration can't give answers to these three questions, the American people should not have confidence."

Our ruling
A video on social media suggests that Biden and Harris distrusted COVID-19 vaccines.

The video was selectively edited to leave out the context of their statements. Their full statements show they were raising doubts about Trump's trustworthiness, his ability to roll out the vaccines safely and the risk of political influence over vaccine development.

This is such a sad story. But not gonna lie, it also makes me very angry. This man let his arrogance, irresponsibility, and selfishness trump the well-being of himself and his family. That is the real tragedy here.

I don't know what has made some so head strong, turning this into a political ping pong like this but I suspect there are many like him.

Almost makes me wonder if the democrats are tossing out some buzzwords to trigger these people into playing Russian Roulette with a virus.

With states like Arizona turning D for the first time in decades by a slim margin, and Georgia also being a very slim margin....it's not hard to imagine it impacting elections in the future.

The guy in this OP almost certainly voted republican

If only he was willing to "gamble" with the vaccine instead of a horse de-wormer, he would surely be alive today.

His unfortunate end should be a warning to all with like minded views.
This is such a sad story. But not gonna lie, it also makes me very angry. This man let his arrogance, irresponsibility, and selfishness trump the well-being of himself and his family. That is the real tragedy here.

This guy has a wife and 3 young children who depend on him with a 4th due in a month. Instead of being responsible, swallowing his pride, and getting the vaccine to protect himself and his family, he takes his chances. Not only that, but he self-medicated after getting the virus and refused medical treatment until he (presumably) had no choice but to do so.

The picture is even worse then you painted. There is a GoFundMe for his family . His arrogance left them in need of charity when his tough guy opinions may make that harder to come by. I too feel both sad and angry. Sad for the family left behind in terrible straights and angry he wouldn't avail himself of the most simple steps to safe guard their future as any parent ought to do. At least get life insurance if not the vaccine
It gets worse the more I think about it. His poor wife has THREE young children she has to provide for and is about to give birth. I feel awful for all of them as they did not ask for this.

I have always been critical of this bull**** "tough guy" act I constantly see from men who refuse to get the vaccine because vaccines are for the weak and covid is just a cold. I dont know for a fact that he was like this but I see this attitude from many of the men who are anti-mask, anti-vax, anti-restrictions. A short moment of humility could have saved his life. This virus truly does not give a **** what your opinion of it is, or how tough you are.

I am so tired of people dying for the stupidest ****ing reasons. When we all know how easily avoidable most of these deaths are. It's really maddening.

You know my point makes those I'm talking about think twice.

How many of them have accused the Clinton's of killing off their foe?

Over 40 and overweight/mildly obese is a whole lot of folks in this country. Many of whom work out and eat pretty well. I'd be curious to see how many of the "just get in shape" folks are over 40 on this board.

Just wait you young whippersnappers. When you can only throw 1200-1500 calories a day down your pie hole before you put pounds on, we'll see how well you "just take a few pounds off."
I have lost over 50 lbs during covid. BMI went from 37 --> 29. Hypertension gone and off meds. Age 50.

Unvaccinated.

First off, great job of losing weight and getting healthier. However, I think you just proved the other poster's point. If you got covid and died today you would still be considered overweight due to your 29 bmi.

Assume:

You have an A1C over 8.0
You have a BMI over 35
Your BP is 145/90 on meds

There are two needles in front of you. Both contain a new type of therapy. One is the Pfizer Coronavirus Vaccine. The other is a magic sauce that reduces all those numbers to my levels.

Which needle do you pick up first? Which needle do you pick if you could only choose one?

If you said Pfizer you're a liar.
