With that said the "body positivity" and "fat acceptance" movements need to die after this pandemic. It's just as ignorant as those who refuse the vaccine. People are dying because they aren't taking car of themselves, either with health and fitness or refusing a free safe vaccine.

See there's no place for that. Fat people aren't evil. And they aren't by default "irresponsible and lazy". Eating right and being healthy is hard for me. I slip up. But I know it's not the right way to live and I open myself up to bad health because of it.
We have to stop putting fat people on media and magazines and saying it's okay or normal. It's not and it's now killing people just like not getting vaccinated.

This deflection would work better if it only took a 30 minute trip to Walgreens to lose weight.

And this "deflection" would work better if I wasn't 1. a huge vaccine supporter and 2. people have known now for 18 months who covid affects and have done little to nothing to get healthier. 18 months is more than enough time for most overweight and obese americans to get healthy.

Being overweight and not being vaccinated are not equal failures of personal responsibility. Losing weight is MUCH harder to do than going to get vaccinated. So there is a yes, both, but let's not give unvaccinated people an opportunity to point at others and say "it's their fault" when they have the option to help with so much less effort.

I think if this were month 1 I'd agree. But we are 18 months into this and our lives are still being affected by people that refuse to take responsibility for their health and put burdens on hospitals.

Over 40 and overweight/mildly obese is a whole lot of folks in this country. Many of whom work out and eat pretty well. I'd be curious to see how many of the "just get in shape" folks are over 40 on this board.

Being less fat is absolutely something that should be pushed more as part of the narrative but it takes a LONG time to lose weight in any meaningful/long term way.
It takes 30 minutes to get a vaccine. My issue has always been why not do both?

From what I understand schools will also close down temporarily due to flu and flu-like outbreaks, but it's not about safety it's because too many kids being out messes up the learning environment with kids falling behind. But yet another thing that's normal during respiratory virus outbreaks every year is being co-opted to spread fear.

Local hospital has a Covid patient who weighs over 800 pounds, doesn't bode well for a positive outcome.
It's really off topic - well, maybe not 100% off topic - but the topic above about not "celebrating" obesity is a tough one. In general, I agree and we must walk the fine line between not shaming but also not suggesting it is OK. Endless studies show being overweight is a risk factor for many illnesses and a shortened life. It is not healthy. Somehow the societal tone must be "we accept, you are human as we all are, but your weight is a risk and we want the best for you and suggest you should lose weight. If you don't, we still accept and love you, but just know it is a health risk as is smoking, drinking too much, never exercising, etc". Our love of fast food, cheap food, and huge portions isn't doing us any favors. American culture celebrates consumerism, excess of consumption of all kinds.
None of us should need BMI numbers, or really even scales, to know when we are overweight. We can look at our bodies and know how we feel at different weights. Same for physical activity, we know when we aren't getting enough. Weight and exercise are things I am far from perfect in managing all 52 weeks of the year, but I know the risks and have never felt being overweight is good, or being a couch potato is good, from a HEALTH standpoint.

It's clearly about saving lives and reducing the strain on our hospitals.
Who do you think is after power, what does that power look like practically, and do you think they're succeeding? I'm honestly wondering what logic goes into this claim, because on the surface it looks like conspiracy nonsense.
