Doc, what would be the best way for us to help, other than prayers. Donations to something or other?

Thank you for your incredible work. I am feeling pressure to start seeing more of my elderly high risk patients in the office since visits have plummeted. A good reminder of why I am trying to keep them home.

Yeah, I read the comments on this post shared over there and should have known better...

Forum 16 is horrific sometimes...specifically certain posters. The Meemaw and Peepaw comments are just embarrassing for any person to say, much less an Aggie. It's flat out disgusting and appalling. And it doesn't matter where you are on if we over reacted or underacted to all this, the human decency and what I thought were basics principles of being an Aggie is gone with way too many.

Now I will be prepared to be PMd, lectured, etc as a lib coronabro (Im anything but of either)....
What's truly sad is that there are some posters there I have respected in the past even if they have opposing political views. They have posted with intelligence and facts in the past and now some of them are taking part in some of the garbage that is being spewed over there and subscribing to the same thought the extremists are.

People do lots of things they wouldn't normally do when they are scared/angry. And to be fair threads and posts here have had to be deleted for malicious treatment the other way.

Overall though I agree that a lot of what is going on on that board is unbecoming of our institution, of higher education in general and basic civility.

Wow, hats off to you good sir!! I can't imagine the daily grind both physically and mentally.

Quick question...Texas has reported 517 deaths as of today....how is it that you've seen 20% of those patients?? Correct me if my numbers are wrong.

It sounds like he's a Locum physician working in both NO and NY.

That being said, some specialities select for seeing a lot of these people. There have been 64 deaths in Dallas so far last I checked and I've personally seen 10 of them and been involved in the care/decision making of 3 others. One of the CC guys at my institution has seen >15 of them.

Since this has been completely derailed,

I totally agree that decency is completely lost on forum 16 The coronabros and meemaw and all that crap is insulting and it's unfortunate that Texags allows it. Instead of doing something about it they will probably just clean up this thread.

That being said, most posters over there understand the reality of the situation pretty well. People are going to eventually have to get it and we can only avoid that fact for a very limited time. Certainly not long enough for a vaccine. It's going to really suck. Badly. Stories like this good doctor's is going to repilcate itself over and over across the country. And people are going to die.

We cannot govern our way around that fact.

Bless you Doc. We really appreciate you posting here and giving us your perspective. It is gut wrenching.
I keep reading that people and in many cases the verbiage "most people" will eventually get this prior to a vaccine. If that is true, it is extremely scary for us as Texas currently has 21k total cases and a population of 29 million people. We are not close to anything resembling herd immunity. It won't matter if you're a coronabro or forum 16 guy if millions upon millions of people in texas get this before a vaccine is released in late 2021. There won't be many people rushing out to the movies, restaurants, bars, six flags, malls, schools, etc. if we go from 21k cases today to 15+ million in the next year.

For what it's worth, when I read your initial response, I had to go back and read the original post first and then realized you likely just didn't remember seeing the NOLA/NYC thing like me.

And I agree. Life is hard and stressful enough right now without immediately assuming everything is coming from a negative place.

I am just seeing this. My goodness my heart hurts for what you are going through. I pray that God will keep you safe as you continue to treat this horrific pandemic. If it makes you feel any better, I have a feeling the number is closer to half a million or more rather than 21K. No way we are at 21k only. That's just confirmed cases. Even if you don't believe the 50-85x article, I would think it's at least 20-25x that amount.

Put this fact in terms of socialized medicine and they will listen a little bit more. Renal issues are some of the most expensive issues to treat on the planet. You keep churning out people with 30-40 years in front of them with renal issues the march towards Medicare for all will hasten.

But by all means open places to get a foot massage and a beer.

Well we already have Medicare for all when it comes to renal issues
