Didn't see a response about nurses. But let me just say that I have been working 11 hours a day. Actively helping swab patients & employees. All the while continuing to treat & care for chemo pts, sometimes almost 70 a day come through our clinic. All the while keeping nursing morale up, making sure there is enough staff to cover my infusion clinics, making sure my pregnant employees are doing okay, & dealing with employees who are dropping like flies with fevers.

I have a doctor that hasn't seen a patient in person in 2 weeks. They are doing all exams via telemedicine because they are refusing to see anyone with a fever or a cough. Another that has limited their clinic time to just in the morning, 3 days a week. Most of our physicians are doing telemedicine exams if it is just a routine exam.

However here are my nurses. Some who are VOLUNTEERING to come in to work. Who are spending hours in close contact with patients. Who are hearing what is going on in the hospitals from their friends & aren't backing down. Who are not limiting their hours or work volume. Some have N95s, some don't & are just wearing regular masks or handmade masks. They aren't complaining. They are pushing through.

I am pro-doctor but right now, it is the nurses that are on the front lines & know what is going on.

Sorry if I sound emotional. I will probably have to be away from my family at some point for who knows how long so I don't bring this home & infect them.

Amen. When my sister had terminal cancer my nurses would go out to her house to bathe her and everything else.

Refused extra money but my sister did give them some of her home grown tomatoes. Nurses, NPs, PAs, etc. are all front line and very dedicated.

Still waiting
Now you know how the wait time is for new patients getting into derm in Aggieland haha.

Sorry man had to!
I still practice in Beaumont and am in CS Wednesday night through Monday am. Still see quite a few freebies at my house here. Maybe I can write it off.
Beaumont?!?!? I grew up in Nederland.
Been in practice at Beaumont since 1990. Finished residency at Baylor in Houston and was a big city med center doc until my dad class of '49 died from a heart attack in 1989. My wife and I prayed about and became convinced we needed to move to Beaumont to take care of my mom. She worked for me for 22 years and refused to be paid. Said she did not want me to be able to fire her. But I had the privilege of being able to take care of her and feed her lunch daily until she passed from dementia at age 88.

My Mohs surgeon partner is from Port Neches, was homecoming Queen there. And I have a new young Aggie doc who has been with me for about six months.

Hey TexAgs,

We've created a new verified doctor tag to help you better understand the credentials of users posting here. The tag looks like this and appears next to a user's username above their post:

If you are a doctor and would like to be verified for a tag, please email - through your work account - your username, full name, basic medical credentials, and Medical License Number or NPI to support_at_texags.com. We will review your request and get you setup.

Many thanks!

Doctors outside of their area of expertise should rarely opine on an issue as serious as this. Giving them added credibility without a CV to support assertions of authority is a questionable move.

This advice should have been listened to.

This advice should have been listened to.
But, people without a doctor ID can opine on the issue and recommend truck driver "vitamin" infusions.

Good doctors know what they know, and know what they don't know. This ophthalmologist knows enough to have a strong opinion about the safety of Plaquenil (which is way easier to say and type than Hydroxychloroquine).

I also know enough about general medicine, how clinical studies are structured and evaluated, the appropriateness of the pharmacy board trying to stop Plaquenil's use, and how the world of politics is unduly influencing this issue to "opine" if I want to.

I think it is a mistake to discount any doctor's opinion on this topic solely because he or she is not an infectious disease specialist.

My Swiss Flag badge is pending.

agree 100% w/ eyebalz
i have never claimed to be a covid expert,
but having seen hospitalized covid pts nearly daily for a year+, the significant amount of experience i have accrued gives me at least a "little leg to stand on"

but as eyebalz says, i am often in the situation where i have to tell the pt that "we simply do not know the answer to that question" or "thats a great question that well have to run by the infectious doctor"
