Yes intact. Just over capacity. Capacity has been reached and is now exceeded. Unretained water dumps into buffalo bayou at the spillway in addition to the 4000 cu ft/sec being released at the orifice.

Uncontrolled is the reservoir overflowing. Mother nature does uncontrolled not 'they'.
They did controlled releases to lessen the capacity, but they can't keep up so it's now uncontrolled.

They can open or close the orifice. The orifice has been open and flowing. They can't "do" an uncontrolled release, the extra water just spills over the top. They can't control that if capacity is exceeded. Capacity is exceeded.
Ah, ok, I did not understand when they said uncontrolled. I thought they were saying tonjust open the floodgates
The problem is that with all the water downstream they can't just open it up full bore. There's no where for that water to go and it would just back up and create even more problems.
The controlled release is through valves/gates. They have maxed out ability to let out flow there.
The uncontrolled is water going over the spillway, first the lower elevated one at the north end of addicks, then much later will happen at the west end, which is higher.
Barker will have "slight" uncontrolled at both spillways.
There should be a new press conference shortly.

I hope they address dam integrity for both at next press conference to provide reassurance.

So I keep hearing a lot of things about the Barker reservoir. Projected to be at a max height of 104.4", will go over the spillway, etc.
Is it true that the water around these low lying areas may not recede for weeks, maybe even a month?

This is a life saver!!! Post this everywhere! Just found out I'm at 123 ft. Barker backup will crest at 104 ft. Everyone west of Barker reservoir needs to check this!!!

Just got back from helping people get off of boats at Mason and Westpark from Canyon Gate in Cinco Ranch. Was going to hop on a boat to help but they started turning personal boats away right after I got there. We headed back when boats started coming back without people on them. LAFD high water rescue was launching as well as Oakland FD high water rescue when we left.
I know there is likely no certain answer, but is 108.91 elevation safe if located on Brittmoore Park Dr north of Tanner (northeast of top of addicks reservoir)?combat wombat said:

Barker will crest at just over 104' on September 2, I believe is what he said.
Tanner was flooded to about 1.5 ft between eldridge and brittmore as of lunchtime. People are reporting that Eldridge is now underwater south of little York and little York impassible west of Eldridge. I cannot confirm that as I have not seen it but we are going to check on it shortly. I will update you on here, you can see The main thread where I gave info on loe and twin lakes. Sorry I can't offer more insight on brittmore but fwiw, vehicles were getting to the north tanner enterance of loe at noon from the east.
in terms of proximity to barker, the flood maps they have published should show you the flood potential with respect to the level of the reservoir.
At the press conference they said they expect Barker to peak at 104.4 and for Addicks to peak at just over 110.
They said Buffalo Bayou is taking much longer to recede because the ship channel is currently 12+ feet above sea level due to all of the water draining into it coupled with the winds from Harvey currently pushing against the bay.

I looked up your location of the flood map. You're very close to the birm and near the 108 ft colored area. They're saying the level will go higher than 108.
I would call the hcfcd if I were you and get ready to leave if necessary. HCFCD phone 713-684-4000

not good. it's the one in the background of your picture. so my garage and car are surely flooded.
