Frontier apparently just had a plan go HOU-DEN.. an hour late, but it got here. This is a good sign.

I guess it's a logistical nightmare but I don't really get why schools that sustained no damage are shut down as well.
I would imagine bus routes, functioning buses, displaced students....the list is endless.

At this pace, which will occur first next year - the last day of school or the 4th of July?

This week hasn't already been written off he the state and they don't have to make it up. Next week may be different though.

Plus districts don't/can't let schools within the district get on different schedules.

I see what you're saying, but they're going to have to this time. There's a good amount of schools that got serious water. I wonder what the plan is for those places. They won't be ready by the 11th.

They're not going to have to makeup any of the nine missed days of school?

This is a different situation but in 1996 I lived in Richmond, VA and we got almost 3 ft of snow overnight. When it was all said and done we missed 9 days of school. The ice would melt during the day and re-freeze at night creating 5-8 inches of ice on the road in the neighborhoods. There weren't enough plows and the city shutdown.

We did not have to make up the school and they didnt even have finals that year.

HISD closed for a day of couple of years ago due to an ice storm. Made it up on Memorial Day and people were beyond pissed.

To me this is one of the biggest non life threating issues to solve. All these kids have to be in school but how and where?

These are the houses I am talking about. Literally in the shadow of the dam, and in the 100 and 500 year flood plain but then have no idea they would flood.

Every airline has failed to fulfill booked flight commitments in and out of Houston for almost a week now.

Spirit is a bad airline. I am not sure why you seem determined to deny that. You knowingly take a risk when flying with them but the upside is the cheaper fare. Everything in life is a balancing act.
Dude, it's either 'take a risk', or don't fly at all for a trip they planned a while back and were looking forward to. Perhaps you missed when I said the other carriers didn't have a flight tomorrow. (Well, frontier shows one now). SW canceled all through saturday, and United had like 1 available saturday, and tuesday flight back was $1200.

This is not a normal spirit conversation comparing them to others, this is about EVERY airline being very intermittent right now, and how all airlines have posted that normal refund and upcharges are not in the picture right now.

Anyone have any good info on flooding in Brazoria county? In-laws survived the storms without any flooding but now water is almost inside their house as the floodwaters have moved downstream.

If they live near one of these river gauges, this could be a good resource.

No delays so far. Would be shocked if that changed now.

United is flying to 6 markets today. Noone else at iah is open

Then you are one of the lucky ones according to this thread. Every time I hop on here it looks like someone is complaining about an airline.

Thanks for the link. They live between Angleton and Lake Jackson so there's not a gauge super close to them but I imagine the Brazos gauge down there is somewhat indicative of the overall trend. Looks like it will keep rising for a while.

We rebooked our flight now we leave out of Austin to LAX and on the return we were assured yesterday by the Southwest Rep that the LAX to Houston flight back on Monday wouldn't be cancelled so we ran with it.

We just got a notification that our monday flight back indeed just got cancelled back into Houston and there are now no remaining flights back for 3 people to Houston, Austin or San Antone.

So we may be out sadly

To those talking about how why developers were allowed to build neighborhoods below the height of the dams. Almost all of Houston down the bayou from along memorial is below the height for the dams. This isn't wouldn't be a problem until the urban sprawl west of the reservoirs. That in my mind is the only reason the last few years the reservoirs have been filled a few times. If things have changed and the acoe need more land for flood control and spillways then they should come in and buy the land they need. Every neighborhood west in the water she's feeding into these is responsible and now that the acoe know this then they should plan accordingly.

FYI my house is not in a flood plain and has never flooded. Will this be an ongoing occuranve for me and everyone south of memorial down the bayou? I don't know. I hope not and hopefully something can be done. I am not required to buy flood insurance but I have it just in case. Not much I can do about it now

Yeah, at a minimum they should expand the pool into the affected areas to increase the reservoir volume. If the design can take it.

This is fine so long as we stop the sprawl west. If we expand the reservoir only to expand west, it's just going to be more of the same with more people involved

I mean in reality is conditions have changed and my neighborhood is now needed for the betterment of the city than so be it. But I should be compensated for that by the city and whoever who allowed everything sprawling west who have made the problem worse

Your dam (pun intended) right

My whole hood is flooded and we will be forced to rebuild because where else are we going to go? And in the short term our neighborhood is worthless

All I know is my tax bill come Jan 1 better be the ****ing minimum. Cause I'm going to take a picture of my destroyed neighborhood and shove it in their ****ing face
