I know someone who drove from New Orleans to Sugar Land today, and they said the only flooding was on the feeder roads. They took BW8 instead of going through town. I wouldn't advise doing this, but I'm just telling you what they did.
you are not getting far on the beltway after the IH10 overpass heading south on the west side.

What makes people think they can drive all of a sudden?

Freeways are either under water or being used as staging areas where people are being dropped off by helicopter.

Stay in place and let the first responders help those who are trapped.
Rain stopped, so,they think it's all clear

A boat? No really, he's likely to get stranded between Lafayette and Lake Charles. Even driving south on state highways. He needs to head north thru Shreveport back into Texas. We got stranded in Vermillion Parish last August from flooding.

Looks like he was further than I thought. He made it to east belt and can't get any further.

They're saying that Barker was at 90', and will cause Canyon Gate to flood at 103'.

Is there any way to monitor this number?

Destroy some to save a lot more

My sister lives on Rhinebeck, just north of Dixie Farm Road (actually, she's closer to Astoria) just west of I45, and just south of Scarsdale. She left for Denton the storm hit. Anyone know what it's like down there? Does she have water in her house?

This is my hood. Mason creek is very high, but as of this afternoon wasn't in imminent risk of going out of bank. We'll see.

Anybody have information on Oyster Creek around Long Meadow Farms / Waterside Estates?

My FIL&MIL have the lake in their back yard coming toward their house, but if the creek comes into the neighborhood it likely makes it worse.

Still getting pounded with rain in West Katy (Firethorne -- west of 99, south of i10). More tornado warnings. My rain gauge says almost 4" since after noon.

I'm on west side of firethorne and have had 1' in the street since 3pm with the constant rain. So far it's still draining well. I'll try and post photo
I'm on the west side too, but close to 1463. Draining well -- only water is on edges of street draining off. I just don't know how much more we can take. At some point it will stop draining. Releasing water from ad***** and barker reservoirs will help. It is just absolutely pouring.

1463 at 1-10 was nearly impassable at 2pm. I'd say we've gotten 4" since then. Everybody stay off the roads in this area, especially around the buffalo bayou bridge by kingsland.
Drainage starting to not work. My street is now flooded. And the rain continues. No bueno

I am right near there off of Westgreen and Highland Knolls. Things seem to be flowing ok over here right now. Water is still over an inch from the top of the curb, however that might change quickly if the rain stays steady and it doesn't have anywhere to drain.
So far so good though.

Looking at the creek right now from my porch. I back up to it in the east side of creek off Sage Thistle. It's crazy crazy high but we're still ok. I sunk a rake handle in the ground a few hours ago and the waters up a little it appears but we've had some heavy rains the last hour so I am about to check it again. It's just dark enough I can't see bottom of it without getting soaked. It's still a good 8ft from my fence and when I stood at the water line earlier a good 7 ft or so below my slab elevation. It would still take a massive amount of water to get it to my house but it's also already a massive amount of water out there now. I just can't believe how high it is now.

Quote:

Because of the extreme nature of the ongoing weather event in the Houston area, Army Corps of Engineers officials have determined that they will likely have to release intermittent amounts of water from both Ad***** and Barker reservoirs to reduce the risk to the Houston metropolitan area.

"These structures continue to perform as they were designed to do, which is to protect against flooding in downtown Houston and the Houston Ship Channel," said Col. Lars Zetterstrom, Galveston District commander. "However, we do expect to release late this evening into early tomorrow morning.

"It is also likely that water will go over the uncontrolled spillways at the ends of both dams, as designed for large floods. If this happens, it will most likely start around the northern end of Ad***** Dam, and both ends of Barker Dam," he added.

"This flood event will exceed the 2016 tax day flood elevations. Structures will be impacted upstream from both locations; the number of structures affected will depend on weather conditions," Zetterstrom said.

Zetterstrom explained that all roads within the Ad***** and Barker area will be flooded and closed for an extended period of time until the Corps can release sufficient quantities of water and make them passible. The Corps expects to have to retain water for approximately one to three months after the rains subside. Homes upstream will be impacted for an extended period of time while water is released from the reservoirs.

"Public safety is our number one concern as we work closely with our partners - the City of Houston, Fort Bend County, Harris County and the Texas Dept. of Public Safety - to monitor the reservoirs," said Zetterstrom. "Residents should always listen to and follow instructions of local emergency management officials."

The releases should be going down the Buffalo Bayou channel...so other than any water going around the south end of Barker Dam if it goes around the emergency spillway, this shouldn't impact you.
