So Howdy, did you start liking The Red Sox after they won Game 7 of the Yankees series last year, or after they won the World Series?

The only thing worse than a Yankees fan

is an arrogant BoSox bandwagon fan.

Actually, 1997. The Sox were 78-84 that year (4th in the AL East). I don't think you can "jump onto the bandwagon" when the team was that bad.

Just a question though, AggieFox. Why the bitterness? Because the Red Sox can field a good team that is capable of making it to the playoffs and the Rangers can't?

Don't know I missed such a great thread.

I'm a Yankees hater... You know actually, its not so much I don't like New York... its the people I don't like.

Not only do I think the Yanks are done for the season, the question is when do they start to re-tool? If they are 10games out, at the AS break, do they consider still being in it? What about 15 games out?

You are getting about all you'll get out of Giambi (see Jeremy's numbers). A-Rod and Jeter still have youth on their side, but Posada for a Catcher will be wearing down.

The OF is WAY too old, to be effective. They need a whole new OF. They can get it, in FA, and will probably pay handsomely for it, but that won't be until the offseason, and I'd be interested to see what the current contracts are, in terms of length.

Rumor has it next year, for the core of their pitching (Moose, RJ, Rivera, Brown) they are working to get special approval from the league, to allow them to take walkers out to the mound.

It'd be interesting to see... if the Yanks ARE in the mix, come AS Break time... will Hicks ship Teixeira and Park as a package to the Yanks, so they'll assume Park's salary?! I think the Rangers have zero chance to resign him, and if they can dump Park's salary.

If Rangers fade, I also expect Soriano to get moved, but only for big time prospects. He'll fit in nicely as a DH, somewhere.

It's a good thing the Yankees had that ten game winning streak earlier... that way they are only two games under .500 now and only six games out of first. But at least the D-Rays really suck so they don't have to worry about last place in the division.

You can never count out a team with Jeter on it, and A-Rod is back to being in the "best player in the game" discussion, but the lineup as a whole doesn't frighten people any more, even with some potentially potent bats in it. And the pitching is really showing signs of wear.

It's way too soon to write the Yankees off, especially with their penchant for going out and buying parts for the stretch run. But I really believe it will be the Orioles and Red Sox battling for the division crown, with no guarantee that the loser will get the wild card, either. I'll be surprised if the Yankees win over 86 games this year.
