Wichita State transfer RHP Johnny Nuanez commits to Aggie baseball
A good Shock to the system might help.
On Friday, former Wichita State right-hander Johnny Nuanez announced that he will transfer to Texas A&M to continue his collegiate career for the Fightin' Texas Aggies.
Originally from San Diego, Nuanez is the first pitcher to commit to the Maroon & White during the current portal window as Michael Earley & Co. attempt to overhaul a staff that owned a 5.24 ERA.
This pledge comes one day after Barry Enright was announced as A&M’s new pitching coach.
During his lone season with the Shockers, the 6-foot-3 and 195-pound junior was 6-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 13 appearances that included 12 starts. Across 56.1 innings pitched, the right-hander struck out 58 batters and walked 20 while holding opponents to a .210 average against.
Nuanez began his career at Grossmont College in El Cajon, Calif., appearing in 23 games over two seasons. He accumulated an 8-6 record with a 6.14 ERA in 114.1 innings pitched and earned first-team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honors.
Coming from a family of college athletes, his father, Scott, played football at San Diego State, and his siblings Matt and Rebecca played football at Cal Poly and soccer at UNC Wilmington, respectively.
As A&M continues to address the pitching staff, Johnny is the third overall portal addition this summer.
