Caden Ferrarro was part of the '23 recruiting class with Sorrell and Grahovac.
He got drafted in the 3rd round, 86 overall.
He left A&M after the Fall when ******bag said he was gonna be a pitcher only. Dude can hit and went to blinn for 2 yrs before going to tech!
He was a sr at Pearland when Nico was a soph, they made it to 6A title game, they were fun to watch!

Yes. They probably negotiated based on expected bonus pool still available before they picked him.

19th round money should be easy to contend with NIL. Think you'd want to come back and improve your draft stock. Plus when it's a place like this, kinda hard to not want to do that.

i wouldn't think a 19th rd guy gets much more if any than the slot value of $150k signing bonus… if he comes back, he has to improve his draft stock considerably to improve on that (he loses most all bargaining power)… i'd think he's 50/50 coming back

Lots of teams use rounds 17-20 to draft unsignable players just in case their circumstances change or a deal falls through on a higher round player. Either the Cardinals did some late math and found some extra $ to spend or he's a contingency plan.

Teams almost never waste a top 10 round pick and usually have deals worked out in rounds 11-13.

We lost Chase Bentley last year in round 19 to a record $757k bonus. Depends on what money the Cardinals have left over after their other picks. With the new 5 for 5 NCAA rule, Freshcorn still has another leverage year left. The cardinals most likely picked him to spare bonus pool money to if another one of their post round 10 picks falls through.

Cards 20th round pick was top 100 prospect that already announced he's not signing. They drafted 2 HS players in the first 2 rounds and a guy in the competitive balance round that turned down big money in HS so they probably didn't save much money with their top picks. They drafted college seniors/grad students in 8, 9, 10, so they likely saved some money there, but rounds 11 and 13 they selected two players that will likely want more then the $150k bonus.

My best guess is they took a flyer on Freshcorn and aren't expecting to sign him but really hard to say without knowing numbers.

Not necessarily. What it means is if Freshcorn has a change of heart he is a steal. Or, they could hope another pick will sign for less….
