We'll never know what might have happened but I bet we had a better chance keeping the 13 run inning below that if we hadn't tried to get so cute with the pitching. I hope we'll get beyond that tactic. Let some guys work through it rather than shoe horning another guy in to face an impossible situation.

Welp, flush this one and come back tomorrow.

That seems to be our game 1 slogan of the year

Can't wait to hear how Earley spins this tonight.

Spins what? We lost on a putrid inning that was 50% luck for Mississippi State. It happens.

The catastrophic 3rd inning in which we allowed 13 innings doomed us, and we trailed 17-4 in the middle of the 5th inning. But I am proud of the effort to score 4 more runs through the 7th inning to avoid being run-ruled and score 3 more runs in the 8th inning before losing 18-11 for our 2nd consecutive loss to drop to 37-13 (16-11 SEC). I noticed a few other bad trends.

1. We have lost 5 of our last 7 SEC games, including 3 of our last 4 SEC home games.

2. We dropped to 3-7 in game 1s of the 10 SEC series we played this year.

3. We have allowed 18 runs twice in our last 7 SEC games and twice in our last 4 SEC home games.

We are a combined 13-4 across games 2 and 3. Hopefully, that trend continues tomorrow and on Saturday.

That was some dog **** pitching. Embarrassing. And the prospects for game two and three not much better. Forget the fact that we're going to fire the fat guy, this is squarely on Early and his ability to build a complete squad.

I don't think Earley is the one to blame… I wish we could hear from JK. I'm not convinced our pitchers trust his philosophy, though I'm not an insider, and I wouldn't blame them.

Boomer made a great point on the broadcast that "stuff" doesn't matter as much as location in college, yet I know there's a philosophy floating out there that suggests pitchers should aim middle-middle banking on average miss-rates and the law of averages for it to work more times than not. I believe that could explain why we get rocked so much. Our guys get gun shy and then start walking the world. It seems we're either piping pitches or out of the zone.

If pitching woes and a lack of changes (coaching, transfer personnel, top HS pitching recruits) after this year continue, then I'd question Earley.

I still think Earley has potential, but BBK earned his walking papers after that 13 spot in the 3rd. How many runs did they score before we even got the first out? 7?

What the ****?

The pitching is what it is this year. And most everybody knew that coming into the season. But to continuously exacerbate the situation by shifting your infielders is clearly on the coach. Stop making a less than positive situation so much worse.

Earley isn't the right guy and never has been. He will stay again next year. It's a slow death but I don't like the hire in the beginning but we have to wait it out. No clue what he is doing with shifts, pitching, or managing a game. Think we have what it takes to get out of a regional??? Pitching? No shot. Generational talent lineup 2 years in a row and can't figure it out

They both need to be shown the door. Earley definitely shouldn't be here this year and probably not last either.

Obviously we peaked too early in the season and this is what we'll get from here on out. Pathetic

Some of y'all don't understand the impact of injuries or you just realized it's baseball season.
lol. We don't have many pitchers hurt. Just an awful pitching-staff, again. Earley, idk what to even say about your lack of portal prowess in the pen.

Im irritated because I know the team is better than this and what we did vs ol piss. Bad time of the season to go into a slump.

Im still pissed over the last 2 seasons. I feel like we had something real special stolen. Hoping we can capture it again and get back to Omaha.

We have the SEC tournament ahead and guaranteed play in a regional. Be happy about that. Last year we didn't get to go.
That is not the standard. Holy ****. Omaha should be the standard. Earley, who I like and trust on the batting side of things, has been a complete and total failure on the pitching side and recruiting that position in his 2 years as our Head Coach. If he doesn't lock up pitchers fast in the portal this year, get rid of this dude.

After the Gators series, I was thinking this is nuts what we are doing without pitching in the SEC. Never would have thought it. Well it appears, it was short lived and as expected this is what occurs when not getting any pitching. I look forward to hearing how this is somehow not the head coaches fault from others.

And I also find it interesting how some don't want TK to transfer. Why is that a concern for a player that no longer plays anyway? It's like he already transferred midseason.

He no longer plays in the interest of keeping Hacopian's bat in the lineup not because he got benched.

I'm not debating the reason why he's not playing. I stated it makes no sense to be concerned if he transfers when our head coach is not playing him. Especially with the lineup being be put out there we are losing series

It makes plenty of sense to be concerned if we lose a guy who's only not playing because we want to keep two bats from the top half of the order in the lineup in a situation that only exists because of injury. Even more so given those two bats will be gone next year.
LB12MEEN
How long do you want to ignore this user?

No it does not. He's not playing. The lineup being put out there is not winning. These are the facts.

It's very justifiable if he transfers. Much easier to justify not playing if we were actually winning games. We are not.

And again I'm not debating the managing of the game is correct or not. You either win or you lose. That's it at this level.

As an Astros fan I can't stand Diaz I will celebrate the day he's gone.

You mean Mr weak rollover ground ball to the left side or the lazy fly ball or framing pitches like he's having a seizure?

The Astros problems are plenty starting with a ****ty GM in Dana Brown. An awful S&C staff is in there as well as injuries and players being ******* in general seem to abound with this team. Honestly, do you think any of the old players that that have their #'s retired would miss as many games as this current roster? They are milking everything they can from Altuve but he's a shell of his former self. Which brings us full-circle back to Dana ****ing Brown. He constructed the roster.

Earley definitely thinks we ain't scoring 6 in the ninth

Ain't life funny.

Seriously though our pitching is a conundrum. Today we had those asking why he hasn't pitched more or why we took him out. He looked great today. But next outing he may walk 3 in a row. Bond, Vincent probably in the same boat. Need Simms to be healthy for the postseason and some guys like the above to step up.

Or I guess we could keep throwing Lyons, Freshcorn and Darden every single game and hope they don't blow out their arms or give up 13 in an inning.

I do think Sdao could be key in the postseason. I think he can be much better than he has been so far. Got to avoid blowing up after a mistake. Moss has been better late in the season. Hopefully, facing non SEC teams in the regional will be an elixir.

It's pretty remarkable what this team has done without two consistent starters. Even when coming out on the wrong side, it's not like this team is losing to tin cans. Last three series have been against a future top 8 seed, and two top 16 seeds but you read some of the comments on these posts and you'd think this team was 13-39 and losing to everyone.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.
