I think I would have bet my house if you told me A&M would be tied for second going into the final weekend

Especially with all the injuries. And the lack of pitching training facilties which was killing us in recruiting pitching. Coach Earley, JK, and Cliff have done spectacular jobs.

And I will add that I am not surprised at all.

If there was ever a time to use the laugh cry emoji... "too tired to play," might as well forfeit the season.

Given the talent level (and that's not a shot at the kids) and injuries I don't understand the negative posts this season about JK.

Ags are in second place we own the tie breaker. Given tu has the inferior opponent we might not be able to match their record over the final 3 but if we do we are second

Because we ( tu & the Ags ) played one less game than the rest of the Conference Unless another series is partially rained out We will continue to own the tiebreaker

SAME! I wish people would remember this when we don't win all the ones we want before they start burning down the house. It's been a fun, enjoyable season so far!

KY coach is a dbag.

Didn't he delay the game to preserve a win because of his flight against us last year?

I wholeheartedly agree. Amazing where we are based on what we (don't) have on the mound. They've managed to cobble something together that has mostly been good enough when paired with our elite offense.

Having said that, some of the questions / frustrations still land at the feet of the collective coaching staff. JK is singled out because the offense has been superb. But we all agree ultimately it's also a reflection on ME. The main open for me is whether this staff as constructed can recruit pitching at an elite level.

There's the also the minor issue of how and when we pitch when the shift is on but again it's hard to know if that is strategy or lack of execution. I've always leaned toward the latter, that we just don't have the arms to consistently locate for the shift.

Aren't they responsible for the talent level?

They have plentiful NIL, great environment, winning history, and a great school to recruit to. Spare me on the lack of a pitching lab or whatever.

They have done a good job of dealing with the situation they are in, but they created the situation with poor roster management.

Earley is learning and I like him. Not sure the pitching coach is the answer though.

Well to be fair, I put my spin upon the stated reason for the cancellation.
Quote:

Our team faced multiple extended delays over the weekend, extensive travel days and challenging rest and recovery periods. We play a critically important conference series beginning Thursday that demands putting our student-athletes in the best position possible for success.

Then again why should I be fair to Nick Mingione who has shown to bend the spirit of the rules of the Game for his own ends.

I remember when Schloss cancelled a late season Tuesday game because of "weather." There was no weather. It had rained the day before. He threw our field crew under the bus for an excuse.

Hate watch.

My current game:

Auburn is currently down 3-0 to Jacksonvile State, bottom of 4th inning, Jacksonville State batting with bases loaded and one out.

Actually, A&M used to do that back in the '80s and '90s. We would schedule a few extras just in case games were rained out and couldn't be rescheduled. Not sure exactly when or why we stopped this practice.

Also, in 1990, I believe, we had a late-season series scheduled with BYU. But when A&M missed qualifying for the SWC by a 1/2 game, we cancelled the BYU series. Back then, only 48 teams made the NCAAs and if you didn't make it to your conference tourney, you didn't make it to the NCAAs.

A couple of semi-bubble teams took losses tonight...

#34 Michigan lost at #54 Kent State - road game vs. a so-so team, so they won't be hurt too badly

#38 Clemson lost at #97 South Carolina-Upstate - also a road game...but despite their solid RPI, unlikely Clemson is going to make to the NCAAs 9-18 ACC record. If they sweep at #39 Virginia Tech this weekend and win a few ACC tourney games, maybe they'll make it, but it's a tall order.

I was under the impression that these "replacement" games were not originally scheduled but added afterwards.

I do not recall a late series against BYU being cancelled in 1990. I do recall a similar series against Pepperdine being cancelled in 1994.

Yep...I'd forgotten about the Pepperdine series in '94.

I can't remember which year the NCAA put a 56-game limit on a regular season. Back in the '80s, Texas and Wichita State were notorious for playing +/- 65 regular season games. I'm sure others were doing it as well, but those are the two I remember the most.

It's pretty amazing how much college baseball was like the lawless wild, wild West up until the late '80s or so.
