I had a conversation with a former player about this season a week ago. I told him how pumped I was about this year and asked what he thought. He said he thought the team would have a great season but his greatest fear for the the team was the fans ability to handle the ups and downs of the year. He said he was from Florida and thinks many Aggie fans don't understand how a baseball seasons can go. His hope was that the fans would be patient and tolerant of the team to give them time to hit their stride instead of adding pressure to the guys when they don't win every game. I will add that all collegiate fans are like this and not just Aggies. Just an interesting conversation that I thought I would pass along.

I suspect online pressure will be immense for those who haven't followed baseball much before. I believe in this team and think, with just a little luck, we can bring home a championship…. But it won't happen in an undefeated season

The problem is, the natty thing is SO in our collective heads right now. I don't know of a fanbase that's so starved (and overdue) for a natty in ANY of the big 3 and the frustration grows by the year. For God's sake even Baylol has won one recently and I can't think of a school less deserving.
We're just gonna have to take a step back and chill

But Floridians have some special knowledge about how seasons go? Okay. Tell him thanks for the condescension, but I think we'll be okay.

LSU won a championship in 2023 and some of their fans wanted to fire Jay Johnson the very next year for going on the road in regionals.

Every fan base is impatient and unreasonable

This. There will be plenty of front runners who've never followed baseball who panic every time we lose.

This team could finish fourth in the SEC and it probably wouldn't impact their ability to get to Omaha. As long as they get a top 8 seed, the regular season will be a success, because all that matters is setting yourself up for the post season. Even if this team were to struggle during the season, they've got the talent to make a run on the road if they put it all together.

There's ups and downs to every season, and these kids are 18-22 years old (well a lot of them, have some outliers). Assumedly, at some point they will hit a rough patch, but I think they have the leadership on the team in Jace, Schott, and others that have played a ton of college baseball and can handle it.

The other thing we have to contend with along with the high expectations is a rookie manager. He's going to make some questionable decisions as well as he learns. Hopefully he learns from the mistakes he makes early in the year; his players help bail him out of those in the short term and this season ends in a dogpile in Omaha.

Exactly right! Earn a top 8 seed and go from there. Conference or tournament championship means little in the grand scheme.

The season is a long grind with ups and downs. Fans need to sit back and let the guys work.

Really solid take. Does anyone know if a team has ever started no. 1, held that ranking all season, then won the CSW? If it has been done I'll bet it hasn't been often. This season will surely have ups and downs, that's just baseball.

Maybe the team that spent most time at no. 1 and never really scuffled during the regular season was our '89 Aggies. And we know how that ended. I've wondered if that team would have done better in game two of that fateful doubleheader if it had played more tight games during the season.

Totally agree with OP, and not just for baseball. Of course, of course, I'd love to see the Aggies go all the way, in every sport.

But, there's so much else going on with life, good and bad, that for me and my family, we're all just continually learning/trying to float on the tides of life (quote I borrowed from a book I'm reading )

Well, there's only been two teams that were the #1 seed for the tourney that have won the title since the change in tourney format (1999) so that should narrow down the research.

Probably not. But in recent memory, LSU was ranked number one for most of the 2023 season. It was only the last couple of weeks that they dropped to #2. They won the CWS that year.

This.

The idea on these boards that Ags are the only fanbase that is rabid, stupid, has unreasonable expectations, etc. is just laughable. We aren't any different than any other fanbase out there.

There are so many frontrunners that live on the Premium board. The game threads over there are absolutely unbearable. So many jerks.

This season will be a grind no thanks to the brutal road schedule we've been assigned. There will be a lot of ups and downs. Even last year we hit a lull before Regionals. This year will be no different.

He must be new to Texags.

No one melts down on an error or a lost lead or a loss.

No one.

I am a football guy. That's what I coached. I played baseball like a lot of y'all, youth leagues through high school. But football was my sport as a player and coach. Every sport has up and downs during the season. In football the pressure to win is intense because the season is short and it is possible to go undefeated. Baseball is a long season. If you hit 400 you failed 6 out of 10 times. You better be able to handle that and go about your business of getting better. It is actually what I love about baseball season. We all want the Aggies to win every game but it is not going to happen. The goal is to get to Omaha and win it all. The road there is a crooked path. I can enjoy the road to Omaha over the course of the baseball season because it is a long season and a loss does not change the goal or the opportunity. I am highly competitive. I love that baseball is not condensed into a 12 game pressure cooker. As long as you just keep improving, overcome the lows, the Aggies can win it all.

There is a good chance we won't be the #1 seed just because of the road schedule. I'm not expecting to win the SEC either because of that schedule. Getting to 20+ wins in conference would be great!

All that matters is we are a national seed. That means a home regional and super.
