  • TK2 is legit, glad it's not my job to figure out how to keep him in the starting lineup when Sorrell comes back
  • Galloway has the early lead for the catcher position, in my opinion
  • Moss and Morton look much improved from last season

Patton has great command of his pitches. Will be interesting watching him develop.

A lot to like this weekend. My concerns coming in remain my main concerns.

- Defense is not good yet. Lots of guys playing new positions + a few hitters that really don't seem to have a position.

- Middle relief has to be able to throw strikes. Consistently.

We're going to hit, probably at least 7 spots deep in the lineup. This weekend looked more like 9 deep.

I'd like one RHP to step up to challenge for a weekend rotation spot.

I'm really excited about Henseler.

Pitching wasn't crisp, but will hold out before making any final judgements.

I am out on Binderup in the lineup right now. Yes, he got a HR on Friday but he didn't look head and shoulders better than Bergavin. Albeit I'm not Earley and don't know how they've looked during practices, but I'd like to see Bergavin get more action to see how he plays. I'm glad we've got Kash as a backup to the backup if required.

Edit: Oh and I'm happy that Earley put in a bunch on bench guys when we went up 11-1 to give them real playing time. Who cares that we only won 12-6. Smart move on his part.

Isn't Bear a catcher? I think you're thinking Bergivin (sp)?

Defense a little rough around the edges. Need dependable relief pitching.

My biggest Takeaway is that the offense is going to be scary good just like we thought, and the defense needs improvement.

I think pitching will be better once everybody kind of has their role figured out.

I would imagine every fan base is picking apart things their team can improve upon as well.

I don't think we technically had any errors today, there were just a few misplays on close ones that ended up being ruled hits. We allowed a few runs that probably should not have been scored if we played great defense.

7-8-9 spots in the order look good

combined to draw 9 walks in the series

rolling over the lineup

There were 2 errors maybe 3 that weren't official errors that lead to runs. Jace had 2 of them. Blake had another.

Saving my observations for a few weeks. Bottom line, 3-0 for an opening series & LaViolette is fast on his way to breaking the record. VERY glad to have baseball back!

Elon opened last year (2024) in a series with Navy and lost 2 of 3.

The previous year (2023), Kentucky took 2 of 3 from them. Elon scored 3 runs in the entire 3 game series but did win a game.

In 2022, they opened with a series loss to Fairfield.

In 2024, Elon had a RPI of 178.

We can be happy with a sweep because it is baseball and no game is a lock, but Elon is a not a good baseball program.

We lost two in the sun today that we're routine pop ups with at least 3 players close enough to make the play when the ball hit the ground. Both should have been errors.

D will take a step back compared to 24' but how much is the question. I mentioned on another thread but we have a log jam @DH and 1B since binderup can't play any other positions and Schott can't play the field.

From opening weekend Blake looks as advertised from the plate but his glove has a longgggg way to go. Just making routine plays would be an improvement.

If binderup could be your everyday DH problem solved. Kash or bergevin plays 1B and you can play Kiel or multiple other options in LF. But since Schott is the DH Earley is in a bit of a pickle. I think bergevin is going to be tough to keep out of this lineup.

What a problem to have. We are legitimately 12-13 high end position players deep but we lose a lot of flexibility with the lineup bc Schott can't play the field

If no one puts a glove on it before it hits the ground it's booked as a hit.

Elon 26 hits in 24 innings
Defense
Both a concern after 1 series

Again only the first series of a long season but still a concern.

Will know more after a few more series.

Section 203 back with a vengeance. The Mustard kid from Elon may be scarred for life.

Early in the season. Get a lot of pitchers game experience. Get young players game experience. You dont need to run rule everybody.

Has Kash played 1b before?

I remember Teddy Two Bags was an all Big Ten second baseman then did a really good job at first for us.

Pitcher from Elon was named mustard. Instead, 203 called him relish, ketchup, mayo, BBQ, Worcestershire, teriyaki, horseradish, etc etc

203 did not disappoint this weekend.

It's way to early to say, but right now it looks like we are trading hits for defense.

The line-up looks stacked. I expect to see Jace get walked a lot this season.

Middle relief looked a little shaky, but I'm inclined to wait and see if some of that is opening weekend jitters/being amped up for game one.

I don't expect us to drop in the polls this week.

Other options are keil at 2b and henseler is 1B. Sounds crazy but he's played 3rd and now 2b. He can play it.

Orrrrrrrr when Sorrell is back move Kiel to LF and Kash to 1B. Lots of options for Kiel, Kash, Grahovac, and Henseler to move around if needed!

Kiel OF/2B
Kash LF/1B
Grahovac 3B/OF
Henseler 2B/3B

Honestly may depend on the productivity we get from Binderup or Bergevin.

If Kiel continues to hit you have to find a spot for him somewhere to get his speed in the lineup. It'll sort itself out, but I was thinking today that once Sorrell returns the OF is Kiel-Jace-Sorrell, and move Kash to 1b.

Offense looked strong and defense should improve.

Most interested to see how we can replace Aschenbach and Cortez's productivity. Who has the best chance to be a light-out closer? Do we have someone who can be an ace long reliever? (Gonna miss Cortez)
