TK may have already cracked my top 5 favorite players to watch on this team, given what I've seen from the scrimmage and this weekend. That's saying something considering there's at least 4 pros on the roster. Love how he plays the game.

Are you taking about Blake missing a pop up? I did not see that but I heard about it when I got back in the stands. It's just a foul ball and it's technically not an error. The batter didn't get to base on that.

I thought you were talking about Elon. There was a ball that dropped between 3 Elon players in the OF. I believe Gavin hit that. But Elon was struggling all weekend to catch balls in the OF. Looked liked to be wind and communication issues.
Not sure who the ball hit on the arm, but it was a pop-up in shallow right field about 10 - 15 feet from first base in play.

We had 4 guys all withing 15 feet of the play.

Wasn't scored an error, but that was a ball that should have been caught.

Got it and thanks for the reference. So it's a judgement call by the official scorekeeper because there's no definition of "ordinary effort"?

A pop fly on a windy day that wasn't fielded by the infielders could be a hit. But, the same pop fly on a calm day that should've been fielded (per the opinion of the scorekeeper) might be scored an error. Am I tracking?

Another scenario that seems to occur is the pop fly where no one calls it and it falls directly between two infielders who both stop. Seems like per the reference, that's an error, but for some reason, I've always been told that it's a hit because it's a misplayed ball. Seems like I am wrong.
It's really rare that you charge an error when the fielder doesn't make contact, but it can happen. Like I said, losing the ball in the sun is usually not considered an error, with the sun as an intervening cause (like being hit by another fielder). But, simply not being able to track a little humpback pop up should probably be scored an error. In pro ball, the pitcher would have been lobbying the scorer post-game to charge the error because it led to a couple of runs that would have been unearned. Those judgment calls are why being the official scorer is not just a menial task--there's money at stake when you get to the top level.
Both these pop-ups were definitely lost in the sun. Very clear blue sky with circling winds.

Still should have been caught.

Kent still has the best at bats in the team.
LaViolette might disagree with you here.

Several very good plays at SS.

LaViolence still swings at some bad pitches. Kent rarely does.

So did Babe Ruth.

Just saying.

But, I get your distinction. Kent is more disciplined at the plate. That is absolutely true.

Man, I agree. Bindy sucks. .636 on base percentage and 1.493 OPS against the same pitching as Kent. Blake had a 9 pitch walk after getting down 1-2 and then a 10 pitch walk after getting down 1-2. Just terrible plate discipline, clearly.

Without injury, I don't think there is a place to play everyday for TK2. Everyone else has more experience. That's not to say that he gets no playing time, of course.

And these 2 ABs were critical parts of our 2 biggest offensive innings of the weekend.

I had no pre-ordained thoughts on Bindy before the season. He had a very nice weekend at the plate. I trust Earley to figure out the defense.

It was Henseler. Blake wasn't within 15 feet of the ball he was so off.

I was encouraged by BBs at bats this weekend. His defense was very poor. I hope he cleans up the glove work and continues to hit so our coaching staff has lots of tough decisions between really great options.
