Pick off at first sealed our doom
No it didn't.
Not hitting timely, 0-7 w/ RISP. There's your problem today.
That's baseball. Some days the ball is big, others it is small. Tomorrow is a new day. We will rock them tomorrow!!!!

1st and 2nd no outs followed by two Ks and pick off hurt. But the opportunity was there in 9th as well.
Onto the next day...
I mean his scouting report had to have been different than what he showed. Possible same for BeamAgmaniacmike12 said:
I know it may go against our identity, but if a pitcher comes up throwing the same cement mixer up the middle on 0-0 like Combs did, then we need to sit on it tomorrow. Working counts is fun too, but that 0-0 was easily his most hittable and most predictable pitch of his pitch sequence.

Tennessee could barely eek out a win on our worse day in a month.
Good luck tomorrow, vols

Our approach is to swing at strikes (mistakes) not necessarily work counts. Schloss hates bad takes as much swinging at poor pitches. He wants the hitters to be confident not to panic when down in the count.Agmaniacmike12 said:

Lots of first time college baseball viewers today
And game thread posters...
Getting excited is great. That's what we all want.
Being a dick and overly critical about 18-25 year olds (had to up the age for Schott) is annoying. Being the biggest Debbie Downer and saying this is over is bad- especially when they haven't watched this team enough to watch them walk off a few games this season.

Just hope using Cortez today doesn't bite us. Didn't need him.
So we should've surrendered the game from the jump?
We didn't know that we wouldn't score anything

It's what they all do. Win game 1 and save your best for game 3. Not rocket science. We don't have a middle reliever. I'm sure it will be by committee. But if you save Cortez and use that committee today, makes more sense. Or like I said last night, bring him in 5th or 6th if it looks like we can win. We'll see.
