As much as I like the Aggie Athletics page highlights, I really like these Wheel highlights because it gives me a lot better feel for have o didn't get to watch.
usually momentum is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher...Sharpshooter said:
Friday put Vandy on the path of self-doubt. Today completed that journey. They will never be the same this season.

Schloss said sweeps in the SEC are as rare as polar bears in CS, if I recall correctlyRED AG 98 said:

That makes 2022 the year of the Pringle and 2024 the year of the polar bear.RED AG 98 said:LOL that it outstanding. Blue star. The Marksman said:

My first thought would be a frozen coconut pie with merengue for the fur.
My second thought is making a shaped hand pie like a bear head.

The frozen coconut sounds absolutely delicious
This one I at least understand. The one that made no sense to me was when they all laid face down on the grass in a circle. Looked like a bunch of synchronized swimmers trying to form a flower. We were in awe and laughing so hard at them by the time I thought about taking a picture they were done.Bondag said:
I will preface this comment with "What the hell do I know". Certainly not one to doubt Schloss, especially when it comes to managing pitchers and winning weekend series.RED AG 98 said:
In real time, I really liked Schloss going to Asch in the 7th. That inning 9-1-2 were up for Vandy so in my mind I was thinking Asch gets through the meat of the order and maybe someone else finishes the 9th. I know he can get 9 outs but wasn't sure based on him throwing Saturday as well. Seems like most of the other times he's done this it's been a Friday and Sunday thing.
Only 2 Ks yesterday as the out pitches weren't finishing guys off like he usually does... and blue sucked. But on the year he now has 6 outings of 3 IP or more (4.0 4x!, 3.2 vs tu, and 3.0 yesterday).
Current season totals for Sarge:
36.2 IP, 23 H, 5 ER, 4 HR, 49 K, 5 BB
This guy is a stone cold killer.
Saving your best guy for late innings isn't necessarily the right move. I bet Tim Corbin wishes he'd gone to Ginther one batter earlier. Schloss uses Aschenbeck when he feels the game is in balance. As long as he's watching the pitch count and not overusing him (and I don't think you can make any case for that), it makes more sense to go to your best and shut down a threat rather than rolling the dice and trying to hang on until later in the game. That may mean you have to close another game with Cortez, Stewart, or Rudis, but so be it.aeroag14 said:I will preface this comment with "What the hell do I know". But I was not a huge fan of when we brought Asch in for both of his outings this week. I thought on Saturday (when we had a 7 run lead), it made better sense to go to Stewart or Sdao and save Asch for a potential long relief outing on Sunday, if the game was closer. Then on Sunday, we had a 5 run lead. Again, thought we could have gone to Stewart or Sdao or Rudis and reserved Asch "just in case" it got dicey.
Obviously, it worked out well this weekend. But I do worry that we might be leaning on Asch a bit too much. If we truly want to make a run at a title, Asch is going to be a HUGE piece in the post season and in Omaha. Im just a little worried that after us leaning on him this much in the regular season he may not be as sharp when it really matters.
Obviously, Schloss knows what he is doing when it comes to managing pitchers. But I still worry.
People have clearly already forgotten the workload Evan shouldered last seasonaeroag14 said:I will preface this comment with "What the hell do I know". Certainly not one to doubt Schloss, especially when it comes to managing pitchers and winning weekend series.RED AG 98 said:

I was really only talking about Sunday above. We'd somewhat litigated the Saturday decision on that thread. In a complete vacuum, using Asch in the 7th with 9-1-2 due up was I think the best decision. I'm glad Schloss has bit of a mixed approach in how he manages, but he's shown many times that he favors the more modern approach of not having defined reliever roles and using the best pitcher in the highest leverage moment.aeroag14 said:I will preface this comment with "What the hell do I know".
