Y'all played some great defense tonight. The 3B, in particular, was outstanding. Y'all withstood a ton of pressure from the 4th - 8th innings.
Paul Skenes is just superhuman. When he's on his game like tonight, there's not much anyone can do. He can paint the black with 100 and mix it up with a wipeout breaking ball. Unfair. Y'all did better against him tonight than most teams, and really made him work. It's only a matter of time before your veteran hitters like Targac and Moss find their swing again. I just hope it's not in these next two games!
Tomorrow, Ty Floyd's main pitch is a flat gyro-style fastball, kind of like what Christian Javier of the Astros throws. His secondary pitches were generally bad last season, but the new pitching coach has helped him develop better stuff. He gets a lot of missed swings and fly balls from his fastball, but is probably our most HR-vulnerable pitcher on the staff when hitters can square his fastball up. If the wind blows in again tomorrow, expect him to throw his fastball 70%+ of the time, with minimal fear of the HR. He's no Skenes, but he's very good.
The curse of the #1 seed is very real. I don't want that juju. I hope we somehow accomplish all our goals this season and end up as the #2 overall seed so Florida or someone else can get the curse. I do think our players would handle the pressure of being #1 better than Tennessee and Arkansas did, though. Can't wait for our next two home series after this week. It'll be the best atmosphere in the Box since 2019, for sure. This team has brought the excitement back for LSU baseball.
