Good morning, I checked it in after the 12th inning. Surprised the Ags were able to hang in there thru the 15th. Very bitter loss. Hopefully the coaching staff learned something about the team last night. Who you can trust under pressure / in the clutch...and who you cannot.

going to need a great start from Kilkenny. The bullpen is obviously taxed

from a historical standpoint...the situation with TCU right now...is very similar to how things were against Rice in the 1st half of the Childress era.

I recall a couple of mind-numbing shutout losses to Rice freshmen in the Classic back in 2009 & 2011 I believe. Where it was obvious that A&M had a mental hangup and was going to find a way to lose vs. the Owls

I don't usually say this, but I put the blame for this game 100 percent on childress.

And you'd be wrong. It was a lot of things.

Your RC defending crusade just looks ridiculous st this point. As I've always said his teams are mentally weak and tonight was just more evidence to that fact. He isn't going to ever win a game in Omaha because his teams lack the mental fortitude to get there.

Mentally weak? We had one bad inning. There was plenty of times we needed a guy check and came through. I don't agree with RC pulling Martin, but to say we were weak is disgraceful and an outright lie.

This isn't about one inning.

also...the only time I can remember A&M blowing a 5-run lead in the 9th inning to lose a game...

1997 vs. Baylor at Olsen. In a Sunday game I think the Bears scored 6 or 7 runs in the 9th to win 11-10.

-----

I think the 9th inning leads in the 2008 doubleheader disaster at Nebraska were less than 5 runs

...but total dumb guy move on Childress' part. I get tagged for being too lenient on him, but Sherrod gave up 2 earned and a walk against Incarnate Word on Wednesday and looked bad. Childress fell in love with the idea of Martin being his setup and Sherrod being his closer and ignored the glaringly obvious, which was that Martin had the TCU hitters swinging and missing up 5. A game against #1 isn't the time for confidence boosters, it's time to stick with what works. Neither of those guys are proven closers, so pitch Martin until that doesn't work anymore.

Then, after Sherrod's outing, he puts a freshman with 2.1 innings pitched in his entire career into the game in one of the most stressful situations I could dream up. The game is already in jeopardy at that point.....what made you think someone with 2.1 innings is the solution? After that goes wrong, THEN he goes to upperclassman Chafin who, despite letting the tying run score, then goes on to pitch a billion gutsy innings.

When we lost to TCU 1-4 to end last season, it was with our best pitchers letting some score. Today it was just Childress fiddling with the lineup because he thinks it would be neat to have a setup man and then a closer, and then mindlessly putting a freshman in an absurdly stressful situation to follow that up.

Dumb.
This is SPOT on and typical of Childress decisions over the years...very predictable.

There's really no logical explanation for leaving in Sherrod after walking the first two batters. No decent baseball coach does that. Now not only did it cost us the game, but Sherrod's confidence could be shot for a while.

And the worst part is RC's overly stubborn coaching style means he's going to leave Sherrod in the closer role regardless of performance like he did Kyle Martin a few years back.

Yet another embarrassing loss that only Aggies encounter, regardless of game. I'm glad we're in such good hands coach-wise in the three major sports.

As Ron Washington used to say, "That's the way baseball go!" Putting in your closer to start the 9th makes sense most of the time. That move is less questionable than moves Joe Madden made in the 7th game of the World Series that cost the Cubs a 5-1 lead. But the Cubs won, so all is good. This is a game against a hated rival in March. Let's see how the season turns out before going full BAS

Stop with the MLB comparisons. Sherrod isn't some established closer with a track record of closing out games. We don't have one of those. RC just decides who is the closer and that guy stays in that role regardless of performance.

And also stop equating this to knee jerk reaction. Those of us that have been following the team for a while recognize the deer in the headlights look our team took on in the 9th. We've seen in time and time again under RC. Schlossnagle owns RC just like Graham and Garrido used to.

Up at 630a to drive to CS for the Kentucky game then at Minute Maid for every inning. That was a day.

What a craptastic ending to that game. But it's one game, moving on.

Let's kick ass against Baylor today but geesh.

I like my 10-year-old's perspective on this one.

"Hey, I'm proud of the team for going 15 innings with the number one team in the nation. That means good things are coming for us."

I will stick with that mindframe.

Good for him. He hasn't been following RC coached baseball teams long.

Leaving Martin in to pitch the 9th would have been the obvious move to 1. Save the bullpen for today and 2. Help Corbin build some confidence in himself to go with his all-world talent. Asking why he pulled him needs to be the first question asked in the next Childress interview.

I fell asleep about 1:30, but props to all of you who stayed up the whole time, and especially the Ags who stayed there at Minute Maid. While I'm sure everyone's pissed, the season is early, we have a ton of new faces on the roster, and took the #1 team to lord knows what inning after I passed out. A good sign that we have a nice group of players again!

Despite my frustration with Childress' devotion to bullpen roles....

TCU is the unanimous #1 team in college baseball across every poll. Everyone was in agreement that our team should be in the middle of a "rebuilding" year. The Aggies have gotten some impressive performances from freshmen and a handful of pitchers. Going into this weekend, I was considering the idea that we might get swept.

They embarrassed, what in some polls, was a Top 10 team in Tech and showed that they could look better than #1 for 8.5 innings (before Childress decided he couldn't go off script). A win today would be a big boost, but the performances over the past 2 days have me thinking Regional Host isn't an unrealistic goal for this group considering we have a more 'favorable' SEC schedule than in some years past.

One positive from last night, we outplayed the #1 team in baseball for 8.5 innings. Hopefully this young team can learn from it and win today

I think they have a lot of pressure on them today to win. If they lose, it will be considered a failure this weekend. If they had won last night, they could relax and enjoy today knowing they beat 2 world series teams this weekend.
