It's crazy but today I wore a baseball cap and running shoes. That's rather ironic. Don't tell Derek Jeter or Carl Lewis. They'll be f***ing pissed.

Agree with bucketrunner as I was also raised on a real working cattle ranch...not 40 acres with a steer. They are the stereotypical "cowboy" and unfortunately that's how the world sees us. Also, kudos to whoever it was that pointed out a real cowboy does NOT wear a felt hat in the summer.

AS, I wasn't referring to the guy out of the stands. Iwas talking about their drum major who "pranced" as he lead the band. He was 3 kinds of gay.

And the guy who does it at Reed doesn't have the dance team stuff memorized. He watches them and tries to copy them. I usually don't laugh at him actually.

Wearing assless chaps doesn't make you a cowboy.

While straw in winter looks ridiculous, felt is perfectly appropriate year round (although uncomfortable in summer). The "straw between Easter and Labor Day" thing was started by people who wanted to sell hats.

I never have understood why people call them "assless chaps." If they weren't assless, they wouldn't be chaps; they'd be pants.

For those of us with a ranching/cowboy heritage, tu really is embarrassing as a "representative" of what the state is all about. I just cringe when I see their band uniforms with all that ridiculous fringe or the white hats(what self-respecting cowboy wears a WHITE hat?!!)with horrible creases.

This. And now they get their own freakin' network to convince the rest of the country that this is what "Texans" are all about. God help us......

Painted overalls are a much better representation of the state of Texas.

To be fair, and I know I am going to get absolutely skewered for this, we have a lot of students wearing military gear who have never been in the military. Granted, the yahoos dressed up in fringe aren't running drills at 5 am.

As you said, they are running drills. The fact is that when you join the corps you are in an ROTC program. Not "playing" Army. The military actually does have the ability to take any corps member, as I understand it, and call any one of them up. You actually sign a piece of paper making you part of a branch of service but before your Jr. year declare whether or not you want to become active military or stay civilian. If this is not accurate please correct me, but this is what I have understood from corps members. But make no mistake, being in the corps is NOT like joining a frat or any "service" organization. Your are being readied for active military service and to prepaired for military life. That is why corp members who do join the service, and a lot do, are very good soldiers and very good/great leaders. The corps gets them squared away early. There is no pretend here...
