I'd most definitely attend an A&M competition. Gymnasts also have the potential to carry the A&M brand...

Honestly, I'd love to see women's sports get added and then balanced with a Men's Soccer team. There's plenty of homegrown talent in the state. It's also probably the sport remaining that offers the largest potential for fan support.

This.
Right now only HBU and SMU offer D1 mens soccer in the state of Texas - crazy.

No! Way too expensive.

Wait til we catch up paying for the current facilities. Then decide.

I Vote No until there is enough money, facilities, and staff along with solid support from the Athletic Department.

Then HELL YEA! Go For IT!!!

This is something that is best planned for our future. Until then, bowling & rifle shooting would be better starters ----- much, much cheaper.

I agree that we need to work on support for gymnastics, but I'm opposed to rifle and bowling. They may be cheaper, but I personally don't care much about the Director's Cup. I care about increasing our presence and foot print. Gymnastics does that. No offense, but to me, even though they're cheaper, rifle and bowling are pretty much wastes of money. If you can get enough support for those teams, go for it, but until then, no thank you.

None that I've heard of yet, but we do have a new AD. He said he likes to concentrate on the money sports of football and men's basketball. I'd say we should get in his ear early and bring up the subject though.

I know it's difficult to actually penetrate the armor and reach him directly, but this weekend I think I'll fire off an email and maybe an old fashioned letter, too.

Way too expensive.

First things first: Even though he has won us several outdoor championship, Coach Henry still does not have a decent outdoor track. No way we spend a ton of money developing a new program when we cannot adequately support the ones we have.

I VOTE NO!

Yes. And with Title IX regulations this will add even more female scholarships to allow for another male sport in time.

Add men's soccer and women's gymnastics and also a men's bowling team and a women's bowling team so we can beat Penn States butt.

NCAA women's gymnastic championship is in Texas, best gymnast in the world is from Texas, former Olympian medalists live in Texas. But texas doesn't have a D1 women's gymnastics program?? Not to mention SEC teams with programs.
Texas A&M=D1=SEC= needs women's gymnastic program.

My wife watches the meets between the SEC schools on the SEC network sometimes. A LOT of their athletes come from Texas and go out of state because there are not many big programs. I think it would help our T9 balance. There are a lot of injuries.

I'm surprised it isn't a more popular idea with the male students, I mean they are actual women in peak physical shape competing, not little girls like the Olympics.

I would love to see Gymnastics at A&M. I have a 9 year old daughter that competes and she keeps asking why we don't have one since all the best gyms are in Texas. This state is a hotbed of talent and we could easily get the talent to compete on the national level. My daughter is at a gym in Houston that is extremely competitive and her coaches that own the gym have sent at least 80 girls to colleges on gymnastics scholarships throughout their careers. Every girl in the gym wants to go to LSU or Alabama or Florida because of their gymnastics programs. It is crazy that we have so much talent in this state and they go out of state to continue competing.

The best gyms are here already so recruiting would be easy. Here in Houston we have Stars and AIM Athletics (only open 2 years but the coaches have been around a long time) and in Dallas you have WOGA and Texas Dreams. These gyms are putting out the best gymnasts in the country right now.

We have had a few girls commit the past couple of weeks including one heading to Alabama. She is from Houston and went to WOGA for a few years but came back to AIM Athletics here. Another great gymnast heading out of state.

Question #1: Do we need another Title IX sport to balance out the Men's sports?

If the answer to that is "Yes," then

Question #2: Why would you pick the most expensive and injury prone women's sport? Insurance cost alone on the participants is tremendous. Other schools report revenue is needed just to cover the insurance cost.

I'm still in favor of this. Doesn't matter if we have a balancing men's sport. We can create one. Convert Lacrosse from a club sport to a scholarship sport would probably do it. Or mens soccer. Or both.
