A drunk driver is putting a whole lot more people at risk than what Chris Beard was doing that night in the residence of his home with his girlfriend, who recanted.
Yeah, they are, it's definitely not a good thing to do either. But it's also something that's much easier to find yourself in a situation where you do it right? Especially in the era before ride sharing apps. It was still dumb, but it's obviously different right?
I'm not trying to talk you out of what you think. If you read that police report and think it says "they were drunk, things got out of hand, he didn't maliciously attack her" or whatever then that's fine.
But I also don't think it's crazy to be wary of hiring the guy. Again, several people on here talk about how they envy Texas and their win-at-all-costs attitude, and yet THEY fired this guy during the season when they were ranked in the top ten. To me that either says it's not the first incident or that the facts they were presented with were bad enough that they had to do it. They could have just suspended him and waited to see if the charges were dropped and then brought him back, but they didn't.
I think the stance of "I'm not sure on this, there's plenty of other good coaches out there if we're talking about throwing around this kind of money" is perfectly logical and not the same as saying "I only want squeaky clean coaches who have never been in any kind of trouble at all."
