The slide continues for the Aggies.

Texas A&M dropped its fifth straight game Thursday, falling by 27 points to No. 10 Oklahoma, 85-58.

The outlook remains bleak as the Aggies continue to lose by large margins while navigating a brutal stretch of their schedule.

This marked their fourth game against a top-10 opponent in the past five contests, with more ranked matchups still ahead, including No. 2 South Carolina next.

Not every moment of the Aggies’ performance was poor. The opening seven minutes were competitive, with the Maroon & White holding a four-point lead with 2:57 remaining in the first quarter.

The Aggies shot 54 percent during that stretch and showed energy on both ends of the floor.

Unfortunately, that was where the game would take a turn. Oklahoma then went on a 15-0 run, and by halftime, the score was 46-27 in the Sooners’ favor.

The Aggies led for seven minutes in the first quarter but ultimately trailed 23-18 at the first break. 

Consistent scoring remains a major issue for Texas A&M. Scoring dips last for long stretches, and by the time the team puts together a couple of consecutive buckets, the game is already out of reach.

From 2:57 remaining in the first quarter to 9:04 in the second, the Aggies remained scoreless. Same went from 9:04 to 1:54 in the second quarter.

The tough thing to understand is that this team has quality scorers and quality players.

Lauren Ware was a bright spot in her second game back from injury, finishing with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and seven rebounds. The performance tied her season high.

Ny’Ceara Pryor has proven what she is capable of night in and night out. Tonight may not have been her best performance, with 12 points and five assists, but she is one game removed from a 22-point scoring performance.

At the beginning of the game, Fatmata Janneh hit a 3-pointer on her first four shot attempts and had seven points in six minutes. The flashes are there — the fight and talent are evident, but something remains missing. Compounding the challenge is an unforgiving SEC schedule.

Oklahoma, led by head coach Jennie Baranczyk, showcased its depth and balance. Freshman standout Aaliyah Chavez recorded 14 points and five assists, while Raegan Beers and Sahara Williams each scored 12. Payton Verhulst connected on five 3-pointers, and Caya Smith added 11 points.

The Sooners look every bit like a team built for a deep March run.

Thursday night will be another game Joni Taylor’s squad will want to learn from and push past, and they will need to learn from it quickly because Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks come to College Station on Monday, February 2, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. CT.
