It's a really crappy position to put A&M in, but from Buzz's perspective it's pretty much a dream scenario - he can try to find another job knowing he can come back to a $4.5mill/year gig with 0% chance of losing it. And if he doesn't want to rebuild, he can just retire for a year or 2 and then get another job. Or do this exact same thing again next year.

I live in MD and, yeah, he complained a lot. Eventually, the fanbase told him to f off. Kind of like what Willard is doing now. Buzz will do well there because he doesn't generally complain. Just #getbetter.

Who's falling for what? Buzz is actively looking for a new destination. That's a fact. He may stay here because he can't find a landing spot that fits his desires but none of us are "falling" for anything.

Also, if he was assured the Maryland job and came to talk to A&M brass about it, not only would we let him walk, I'd bet we'd negotiate his buyout to make the transition easier if needed.

Maryland won't owe $16mm. If he leaves the buyout is $2mm, or $1mm after April 1.

The buyout if A&M fires him is the larger figure. Billy quoted $16mm but that seems high since I think he has 3 years left in his contract, I would think it's more like $13mm. But either way it's more than we would likely be willing to pay.

Thats now how it works, the coaches have all the power in this game. The 14.4mil buyout only goes one way. Buzz walking on his own is a much different price. Just like Jimbo had his own buyout if he was fired and a different dollar amount if he left.

We get into this detailed coaching convos and some people still don't understand the difference between a school buyout and a buyout is someone wants to hire him.

Willard and Buzz's buyouts drop down on April 1st apparently. So might be that time before the first domino falls to see if there is a second domino.

Now that the smoke is legit, this feels similar to BCG (and a lesser extent Turgeon) where our basketball coach is flirting with a bunch of different other wives looking to dump us.

If he doesn't leave now, it will still linger as an issue with fans because their perception will be he no longer has enthusiasm about coaching here.

The initial twitter smoke was that Buzz to Maryland was a done deal after they lose.

The real story, unfortunately, is that Buzz may have been approaching several schools over the last few weeks and Maryland is no different. He may end up at Maryland, but there's still a mess to sort through between Willard, Maryland, buyouts, and Buzz.

If that happens and he has to stay, he'd have to be a very different guy from who he's been on the PR front with this fanbase, if the reports are true that he's shipping himself this hard. If he doesn't get either of those jobs, he'd have some egg on his face for sure…not saying he'd care, but he would. Again, if the reports are true, and without him having and agent and especially with him not immediately squashing the rumors, all signs would point to truth there.

Yup. We'll know a helluva lot more come April 1 and if Buzz to Maryland doesn't happen then we are stuck with a coach that doesn't want to be here because he's interested in other jobs and his buyout is too much to fire him.
