I'll qualify this by saying I have only watched the Oh St game and listened to the rest on radio but we seem to go through periods of games where we get quite a few shots blocked. 10 blocked by UCF and 8 by Southern . I know UCF has some tall shot blockers but we had a significant size advantage vs Southern. What's the deal with that?

Said this in the game thread but it's been an issue for years. We've ranked in the 300s in blocked shot percentage every year under Buzz.

I assume it's a byproduct of our driving to draw fouls. It does help our offensive rebound percentage a little bit though.

I have to say I wasn't aware it was a prevalent issue throughout Buzz' tenure . Thanks for pointing that out.
I didn't recognize it as an issue until this year.

I thought about our tendency for attacking the rim as a potential cause but as you said we have had that tendency for awhile . Was that what the blocked shots were vs Southern. Impossible to tell just listening.

It would help if our bigs elevated and Manny didn't shoot flat shots…

Switching gears a little but noticed on a Made 3 by Manny vs OH st that it was a total knuckleball. Zero rotation .

Henry really can't elevate but Solo , Garcia, and Payne can

We are 341st in the country at getting our shots blocked. 5.41 a game.

Definite correlation between blocked shots and free throws shot. Now, if you looked only at the bigs, what's that stat look like?

Another aspect of blocks that I'd like to ask Buzz about is if he's seen some kind of data on block outcomes that makes him think they're not a huge deal. Like how many of a team's blocks does that team actually regain possession of? A lot of blocks go straight out of bounds in which case the ball goes back to the offense and even when they don't I imagine the offense recovers the loose ball a significant amount of time, so maybe we just don't think getting blocked is a big deal? It's definitely a preferred outcome to a turnover which kind of goes back to our "if in doubt, shoot it" mentality.

It's obviously an intentional choice, we're consistently extremely bad at it.
