Television announcers constantly reminded us that we could be seeing a really good game depending on which A&M team showed up.

I always thought he seemed to have a naive, child-like quality about him, with actions that you'd expect from an average 12-year old that was left alone. Hopefully they get him some sort of mentor that doesn't allow him to get taken advantage of financially.
Didn't think about this, but yeah hopefully his agent and circle around him has a responsible and trustworthy financial manager. A lot of vultures out there, including often friends and relatives. Rough start though as apparently they don't even have a good alarm clock yet in place.

Yes, he flew from Boston back to College Station per Celtics article on this:

Quote:

Williams biggest mistake this time appears to be his decision to fly back to College Station, Texas, following his introductory press conference in Boston on Friday to deal with personal business. The short turnaround was apparently too much for Williams to negotiate.

Kennedy deserves some recognition for assembling one of the dumbest basketball teams ever. Basically every important player besides Davis and Wilson (a transfer) was suspended for at least 1 game. And what Williams is doing now deserves special attention. He just signed a multi million dollar contract and he can't even make a flight or find and pick up a ****ing telephone.

I'm curious if the CLL missed flight was due to oversleeping like the earlier missed conference call.

It's just because he's not good and recruits a lot of kids who need discipline but his style doesn't actually provide much of it. I do not blame BK for this one, though.

Good news. Robert made it for the second day of practice. Fortunately, he has the talent to get more chances. Had somebody like an Alex Caruso, Danuel House, or Jalen Jones missed their first NBA summer team practice back in the summer of 2016 after signing as unrestricted free agents, probably they'd have simply gotten a text message from a secretary telling them to don't bother showing up for Day #2 of practice.

Quote:

Celtics first-round pick Robert Williams, who missed the team's first summer league practice on Sunday after missing his flight to Boston, returned in time to take part in Monday morning's session.
Quote:

President of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in a phone interview on Monday that he would not defend Williams's absence, but he also did not want to harp on it.

"I'm moving on," Ainge said. "Today's a new day. We're trying to provide structure for all of our players, but yes, we need structure around Robert."

Williams, the 27th overall pick in last month's draft, attended his introductory news conference in Boston on Friday morning before taking part in a community event here later in the afternoon. The former Texas A&M star flew back to College Station, Texas, Friday night and was initially scheduled to return to Boston on Saturday. But Williams then moved that flight back to Sunday and missed that departure.

Was there no reporter curious enough to ask the Celtics why? The Celtics organization was obviously very upset about Robert's "blunders."

In this segment yesterday, John Goodman says the Celtics are partly addressing RW's immaturity issues by bringing in one of Robert's old high school coaches from Louisiana plus a personal trainer (associated with Robert's agent) who are going to move to Boston and live with him.

So basically, the Celtics are confirming what many of us thought over the past two years. I hope he gets it together, but dude is gonna have to put on his big boy pants at some point.

Ainge is going to protect his investment. I wouldn't be surprised to see a handler help RW through the transition. RW has an opportunity to contribute in rebounding and D.

Can't make this up; listening to the Locked on Celtics Podcast. Robert Williams doesn't know how to set a screen. Yea, this wasn't something taught at A&M. Good night we've complained about poor screening for eight years.

Another complaint around here. Over hedging. They noticed Robert jumping out of position. It's interesting to listen to NBA guys complain about issues we've all seen.

Some of you guys are going to have to understand what Boston sports media is like and what you are going to get from them.

The great thing about this is that Boston had 2 years of college film on Robert so they knew what he did on the court. Now that they have identified these problems I would expect him to be a perfect player by the start of the season or we will know Brad Stevens is a fraud and needs to be fired.

I doubt Robert Williams plays much next year outside of garbage. Already saying Robert is a hard 5. They have centers glore in front of him. It's an interesting team more than a good situation. Celtics will give Robert things to help him, but will move on quickly if he doesn't get in line.

It's an extremely crowded roster, and it's hard to say what sort of lineups they will use re-incorporating Hayward into the rotation. They resigned Aron Baynes, so he'll likely get the majority of C minutes when Horford isn't playing the 5. But if they don't resign Greg Monroe, that's potentially 20 minute per night they will need to make up and Robert would be a logical replacement.

If we are talking about NBA summer league stuff, what the heck happened to Trae Young? Just watch those NBA summer league shots in the clip below. Guy came out looking like the next Steph Curry when he showed up in Norman.

Now...Yikes! He has been shooting seemingly worse than at least half the guys I play with in pickup basketball (if I joined a random pickup game and came out blazing with shots as far off as those, not sure the ball would never get passed to me again).

PlanoGuy, if you are reading, what the heck did ya'll do to that poor kid up there in Norman?!?! I was all-in on the Trae Young hype and now I'm feeling lost and confused.

Only if you take my posts literally!

I had not seen yet that Young had a bounce back game. Was only caught up to his performance in that Utah league, which was starting to draw of course some 'They should have taken Luka instead' talking head opining.

On a different side note, I noticed Mitchell Robinson actually played pretty decent in some summer league games. If the guy could play that well, sure seems even more questionable why the kid declined to attend the NBA combine. If he could have balled out just a bit in a game or two there, might have locked up a first round draft spot.

Seriously though, freaking amazing. 2 years in our program and a big man can't set screens.

Not a surprise to anybody who's watched more than 1-2 games during the Kennedy Era, but Kennedy knows nothing about teaching offense. His schematic plan is pick up ball and luck.
