Langford is nowhere near the top 5 all time in my opinion.

Langford dropped 39 on me in a game my junior year, his sr year. I was about 6 inches shorter and I was giving him the 3... He hit 5-5 in the first half

Not top 5 but one heckuva player was Troy House. Played at like 3-4 different HIgh schools because his dad was a coach. Lead ingram Tom Moore to state Championship

Anyone more dominating or intimidating at the high school level than Worthing's David Lattin?

The district North Crowley was in back then was such a joke. Don't think they lost a district game in 5 years.

Not true at all. You do realize Crowley high won a state title around Langfords soph year right?

Yes I do but North Crowley opened as a 3A. Trust me the district was terrible.

Joshua, Burleson, Stephanville, Brownwood all awful in bball. Crowley was bad too after their title run. Langford was arguably not even the most talented player on our team.

That was a 4a district and cleburne was in there as well and they had a really good pg that was 1 yr behind Langford. Crowley was also still good, just not great after that title team

Crowley was ok compared to the rest of that district. Still doesn't change the fact that district was awful. I know that was a 4A district, but NCHS opened as a school in 3A. I believe that was the year Crowley won state. Up until a few years ago we (NCHS) were notorious chokers in the playoffs.

Man, this brings back some memories. LaBradford Smith was AWESOME!

Gregg Ostertag was a beast. I remember him beating bryan high and Joe Webber.

I remember Ray Jackson (the fifth wheel at Michigan) balling against Bryan High!

What about Rudy Woods?

LJ was a man too!

Jimmy Smith, from Victoria? His Dad was the coach there. He signed with A&M, but I think he left the program.

glad to see someone mentioned Stan Bonewitz, best shooter I ever saw play high school ball in texas.

tj ford was best I ever saw in person, followed by Larry Johnson

someone unmentioned was Thomas out of Lancaster (Duke player in early 90's). He played post at Lancaster at 6'4" and was dominant. I think they won state when he was a senior.

Will Flemons at Paducah was the best 1A player I ever saw.

Terry Teagle (Broaddus) set records that still stand to this day in 1a state tournament all 4 years in high school state tournament
Shaquille O'Neal (state champ SA Cole)
Smoke Dog "Smokey McCovery" 40-0 team for LaPorte along with Bryan Sallier
LaBradford Smith Bay City amazing athlete and player on team full of talent including the Dykes brothers Hart Lee and Billy.
Chuck Hall Krum scored a ton of points with no three point line if they had that back then he would be the all scoring leader in the state of texas.
Troy House was a good player but never met a shot he didnt like or didnt take.

Bonewitz dominated the state tournament at the 5a level like no other player. That guy had the entire place on their feet.

Bombing threes, triple threat and two dribbles to the foul line jumper, around the backs in traffic, between the legs alley oop. Absolutely amazing performance.

Others were athletically superior and had obviously higher after hs potential. But its definitely stan in my book.

I have to throw in Lance Blanks from Conroe Mccullough. He played at Virgina and for the Horns. One of the most consistently dominant HS players I've ever seen. He was unstoppable at the HS level.

I would add Stanley Bonewitz incredible player his senior year on a great team.
Sean Gay Houston Madison in 87 was another 40-0 team that was one of the best teams i ever saw they were tough.
phatty26
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Correction Houston Madison was 1985

Four more dominant players all from small schools if you ever saw them play they were dominant.
Jerry Joyce Morton State champs 87,86, lost in final 85. the 1986 team was as good as any in the state having beaten the 5a State Champ Amarillo during the season. That team was great and coached by one of the best Tony Mauldin now at South Garland.
Greg Austin from Troup state champs 92,93, lost in final 94 and semis 91.

Will Flemmons Paducah havent seen him mentioned and Joseph Jones from Normangee.

Did TX not have HS basketball before the 80's? Your list would suggest so.

"Greg Austin from Troup"

This guy was a complete waste of talent, would barely make the top 100 in TX

Antonio Falu from Puerto Rico had a falsified transcript that made him a junior the year we (Waltrip) won state when he was really in his 4th year of high school. We had to forfeit a bunch of games the next year when he was ineligible.

Field was a sophomore on the state team and yes, went to Cincy. Immanuel McElroy also played for Cincy he was the star player at Port Arthur Lincoln (who we beat in the regional final) the year Waltrip won state but actually went back to Lincoln after being enrolled at Waltrip at the beginning of the year. The best player on those teams was Cedric Taylor who I think committed to Drexler at Houston but I don't think he ever got his academics together.

I would compare Field to Josh Carter. Great shooter.

Labradford Smith for me. Those Bay City teams against Port Arthur Lincoln in the playoffs every year were golden.
