at the beginning of this season...I predicted this would happen within 3-4 years..obviously nothing has happened yet....but this would not suprise me at all

I think the fans should just take a deep breath. The players have to buy into his methods or this will not work. Gillespie has to do it his way and refuses to change.
If he leaves uk after the first year and all the buildup at his hiring his career could only go down hill, at least for a while. So I wouldn't panic just yet.

Also I am pretty sure Gillispie will be at UK next year.

Half the article compares (rather unfairly) him to Pitino and wondering why he isn't coaching 'pitino's' way.

I think BCG will remain at Kentucky at least another year also.

Reporters shouldn't be printing unverified rumors from message boards.

I do not want that guy coaching in the big 12, unless it is at A&M. (Not saying that Turge isnt doing a good job, I think he is, I just dont want bgc to turn oSu around.)

It seems like all the kentucky fans on the blog are a lot more mellow than the writer seems to think.

Tubby Smith took over a loaded team and eventually ran it into the ground. The Kentucky people have to realize it takes a few years to get something like that turned around.

It should be noted the word before the quotation in the OP is "wild." The reporter says there are "wild rumors" that BCG would leave. I think it is more a statement about what the fans are saying/doing/thinking then it is about something that might actually come to pass.

It will be hard for him to take a job where there isn't an opening.

If there is any sanity in the world, there will be an opening at OSU.

His first game back at Reed would be interesting.

That would be horrific.

While I understand the wish that every competitor be a slouch, so that we can run up the win column, a la Memphis, it is actually in our interest to have a strong conference. To use the most obvious example, every year in the ACC, there are 6-8 teams considered NCAA tourney caliber before the season even starts. ACC games are beamed nationwide every week. Players know that they will be seen if they play in the ACC, even if they do not play for Duke or Carolina.

Gillispie going to OSU would be a net gain for Big 12 competitiveness and exposure. The games would be more likely to be shown nationally, helping A&M and the rest of the conference recruit the top athletes. Big 12 teams, having been toughened by the games within conference, will compete more effectively in March. You don't get better playing inferior competition.

While I don't hope for Gillispie to get fired and come to OSU, I am not afraid of it, either. It would just be one more great matchup in Big 12 play, to go along with KU, tu, OU, Tech and now, Baylor, Missouri and K State.

kentucky is billy's dream job. he's not leaving after one year.

did he ever sign the contract at Kentucky? ...not that it matters THAT much, but just asking.

For a several reasons--I don't believe that for one second.

It's really a two part bet, whether he is forced out, and whether he ends up at OSU. Since they are rumors, who knows if the first part happens. As for the 2nd part, it depends a LOT on what other jobs open up this year.

i'm fine with having baylor, ut, and us as the big teams in the south.

the last thing i want is BCG getting accessibility to houston, dallas recruits.

BCG @ Okie Lite is very bad ... that would be just wrong.

Well, like I said earlier, I like the prospect of a (even more) highly competitive conference. Having grown up in ACC country, there is nothing better than every game being a barn burner. The teams that lose out are the non-Big 12 schools, not the conference schools.
