Oklahoma was not a high demand game on the former student/public side. That game had many tickets not sold that were grabbed by a huge student walkup.

no he doesn't. he wants as much money as possible, or else he wouldn't keep raising prices. turgeon wants a full house, byrne wants the revenue.

The students only care about the big games.

absolutely not true. i have been to every game except the famu game because i was here working over the break and we have had plenty of games against no name teams that the student section has been 75% or more. and there have been plenty of empty seats in the general admission and season ticket holder seats(i should know, i have sat in them for about half the games).

the bigger reason is that students that stay in college station all semester and then go home for the break don't want to come back and miss time with their families and home town friends that they haven't seen all semester. not to mention that none of the freshmen have a place to stay since the dorms are closed.

and even though i registered for a ticket for saturday, i agree that the athletic department should have sent out an email saying that they would be selling the extra tickets, because people new to basketball wouldn't necessarily know that, especially since this is the first year of the system. a lot of people don't bother registering for games in case something comes up and they can't go. and you can't really expect them to just assume that it will be done the same way as football.

They did send out an email for this. Bobinator posted it here (original post) before registration had closed. The fact that one wasnt sent out a long time ago is due to the fact that this is a new system for both students AND athletic department. They didnt think they'd have a sold out game where the students didnt also fill their allotment. Now we all know what happens.

If Byrne just wanted more revenues, why would he increase student seating instead of reducing it?
J. Walter Weatherman
How long do you want to ignore this user?
because he can offset it by jacking up prices in all of the other seats.

Or he could have just raised ticket prices and not given any new seats to students and REALLY raised more revenue.

Bill Byrne is the debil! He caused this!

either way, if he really cared that much about getting people in the seats he wouldn't have raised ticket prices so much. he did it to football and baseball, and now he's done it to basketball too.

Ticket prices did not go up.

Yes, Bill Byrne tries to keep up in the arms race with the other major schools in the country. However, he has NEVER done this at the expense of students. As a matter of fact, he ADDED seats to the student reservation instead of selling much more profitable season tickets to the general public.

Can people please stop saying that the students not having a place to stay is a good excuse? They can easily drive back that night just like all the other out of towners that are coming in for this game.

And it's likely lots of those living off campus have a place paid up through spring anyway.

Don't people realize that the students that live in West Texas have more than 10 hours to get home from a game.. can't exactly come and go in one night. Plus, there are students from other states and other countries. We live in Canada and my child cannot afford a $700 plane ticket to go back for one game. Give the students a break.. TAMU has an amazing student body and when I do get to a game, I always wish I had gone to a college like TAMU where the student body is so spirited.

Yes, but I would guess that 20 thousand or so live in a three hours drive of campus. And I know many stayed in town because of jobs.

A thousand is still a really poor showing with tens of thousands of students.

Yes, you do have a point about so many students living 3-4 hours away. But, as someone who is an outsider and went to a different school, I am amazed and really admire TAMU and the students. I am grateful my child is having the opportunity to go to TAMU. I went to many an ACC game during my college years but I have never seen a game like some of the b'ball games I have gone to at TAMU.

If you live in Houston or somewhere else that is 90 minutes or less away. I'll be headed back down tomorrow from Dallas and will stay in my apt. But, if this was a before xmas game, there's no way in phauck I'm driving 6 hours in one night to watch a bball game...sorry.

WILL YOU PEOPLE SHUT UP!!! Have you been watching any of the games on TV of the other top 10 teams? There have been empty seats in abundance at most of them. IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE.
As much as I like Coach Turgeon, if he actually is complaining about the attendance at this point in the season, I suggest either book a more respectable preconference schedule (I know, he didn't set up this schedule.) or move on. We are pouring a lot of money into the BB program because that is what it takes to compete the way we want to. But, if he's really complaining the way some of you are saying, then I don't know what we can do to please the guy. Attendance is improving at a steady rate. Will all you "chicken littles" just GIVE IT A REST?
See you at Reed tonight.

P.S. I've posted this before, but think it bears repeating at this point. A friend of mine who graduated from Ohio St. and has a brother who was an associate athletic director at Indiana during coach Knight's glory days, went to the game 2 years ago when THE SHOT sent the Longhorns packing. This guy has been to some BIG TIME games at some BIG TIME venues, and he told me later that he had NEVER been to a college BB game with better atmosphere than he experienced that night. We have the potential to make that a more regular occurrence if we just all work together to make it happen instead of sitting in front of the computer and pointing fingers.

Gun safety is no accident.

Because Aggie basketball is not worth caring about that much, unless its one of the hip games all my friends are going to.

Before anyone else complains about the attendance at the Aggie men's games, I'd like to see them drive for hours and plop their butts down in a seat at an Aggie women's game. Are some Aggies more special? If you aren't supporting Aggie women then don't complain about those who aren't coming to all the Aggie men's games.

I haven't read the whole thread, but do people realize that gas is around $3 a gallon right now.

Broke ass students can't really afford to spend $60-100 just to get to a game.

So I have a ticket for the game, but have a question for some friends. They are students, don't have sportspasses but want to go to the game which is sold-out (they tried to buy tix on Friday). Can they get in to the SRO by walking up tonight? Or does that only work for students with sportspasses who registered and didn't win? Just curious how it works. I've heard about the standing-room only before but never needed to know the details as I've usually gotten in myself with my sportspass.

If it is possible, how does it work? Is there a certain line they have to go to at Reed? And do they just wait around until after the game starts before they let them in? And once in, where do they stand?

Thanks!

Any update on the # of tickets avaliable?

it's not so much the opponent. i think it's more that people don't want to drive 6 hours in one night to watch a game that will be a 30 point blowout. if they know that it will be a competitive game, they're much more likely to show up.
