Solid list. I'd add Home Slice, they make an elite Italian sandwich.
I like their pizza, I'll have to try their sandwiches. My daughter lives 2 blks from the one on Duval.

Funny. We had BLTs for dinner tonight something we do during the summers. Wife stays to the classic but I go BLEATs. Thick cut Applewood smoked bacon, butter lettuce, fried egg in bacon grease (add ground pepper as it's frying), thick sliced tomato, avocado on toasted sourdough (HEB bakery) with stone ground mustard and mayo.
For the egg you should try to cook the yolk most of the way through else its runny and can make a mess.
My top 3 chains are Potbelly, JJ and JM.

You had me until cook the egg through. I want that runny yolk if I'm putting it in a sandwich or burger.

Smoochie-Wallace II said:The first key is the bread, the second key is the toppings. Ideally, you'd make homemade bread, but most people don't have time for that. Buy yourself some good bread from the store, I favor French bread or Italian bread fresh from the baker. Your cold cut options are up to you. I like turkey or ham or turkey and ham, but am also okay with pepperoni or salami.Eliminatus said:
Was just thinking bout making this thread and lo and behold…
Of the national chains Jersey Mikes is a staple. Though Jimmy John's is super high up there for me because they do lettuce wraps. I also enjoy Subway far more than I will admit in person.
Though I was thinking more along the lines of homemade sandwiches. I'll never gain entry into the Blackstone or homemade pizza crowds but the idea of higher tier sandwiches at home has always intrigued me. For clarity I grew up a ham and cheese with mustard on the cheapest bread style and didn't discover "good" sandwiches till much later in life and have become obsessed with them. At least looking and researching them. What's y'all's go to for a damn good home made sandwich? What are some easy hacks you've discovered to elevate to another level?
More important to me are the toppings, and by toppings I mean vegetables. Slice some tomatoes on there. Pickles if you have them. Cucumbers if you don't have pickles. Maybe some onion or bell pepper. Season with salt and pepper so the vegetables really pop. Toss some pickled banana peppers if you have them. Add a touch of spicey mustard to the top of the bread, slice your sandwich, and eat.
I can also recommend a hot Italian beef sandwich recipe, but it takes 72 hours to make because you're making your own beef broth, giardiniera, and bread.
Yup! It's a pretty stout spice and cuts through pretty damn well. And realized my tomato comment could be construed as a condemnation of your rec which is not the case at all. Tomatoes and I have been in an ongoing battle for years now of me trying to love them and use them more. I have no idea why I am in love with the thought of that but I am for some reason. This was just round n+1 in that war.Smoochie-Wallace II said:
Were you able to taste the 21 spice mix over the seasoning on the bread? I always use plain bread so I can taste the seasoning.
I also don't use lettuce. Used to be a heavy lettuce/tomato/onion guy, but realized the lettuce doesn't really taste like anything on a sandwich to me. Personal choice.
I applaud your use of the side pickle.
Dagwood Bumstead would be proud.
Hot snausage sammies!? INGarrelli 5000 said:
As far making my own sammich….i have a tub of Patton's hot sausage patties in the freezer. We made HS sandwiches twice this last week. No good French bread available but on nice toasted sour dough was killer.
Patton's is actually beef which confused the **** out of me the first time I looked for it at a Rouses on a Nola trip.
That made for a fun read on wikipediaEliminatus said:Hot snausage sammies!? INGarrelli 5000 said:

So a turkey and ham sandwich?Tanya 93 said:
We have a place called Pickleman's
Great sandwiches and salads.
I get the turkey bacon club without bacon and mayo, add pickled onions and balsamic dressing.
They toast the cheese on the bread. Yum
I murdered an egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich with the last of my everything bread this morning myself. Nothing fancy, just a time honored classic. Delicious!Smoochie-Wallace II said:
Thanks to this thread, I'm eating a sub for breakfast.
Turkey, ham, onions, homemade giardiniera, spicy mustard.
It came out great!

The NY Italian at Thudercloud was always my splurge sandwich. Normally I would just go turkey IIRC.

I do love a breakfast sammitch. But it hs to be on a biscuit. Not an English muffin (which I also love) because the muffin won't tear like break or a biscuit and all it does is smoosh the Sammie guts out the side making a mess. And I don't like bread because then it's just a regular sammitch.

Counterpoint: we are adults, we can eat sandwiches for breakfast if we please.
And you've experienced this because we all know bagels are superior to biscuits for a breakfast sandwichAlaskanAg99 said:Smoochie-Wallace II said:AlaskanAg99 said:

Sure you can. You can have Crab soup if you want.
Doesn't mean you're right. People are wrong all the time. Meaningless arbitrary rules are fun.
