I absolutely abhor the treadmill but it's days like today that make me grateful that I bought one so I don't have to run outside in this.

Have any of you watched Loudermilk on Netflix? Ron Livingstone (Peter in Office Space) plays the curmudgeonly leader of a Sober Friends group (ripoff of Al-Anon). It's actually very funny.

There is any episode where they talk about making it the first 36 hours being the hardest.

Just read this story online. Kind of a holy cow moment.

Quote:

A few days ago while I had the opportunity to help someone. I found him drunk alongside the road wet in sub 0f weather or -17 c.

"Jeff" we will call him lost a leg and his ears to frost bite. He was in no way linked to the car I saw in the ditch. He is still in the hospital in stable condition. He says he knew me growing up. And rembers part of our ride.

Jeff had been out ice fishing he got drunk. He feel threw the ice after his ride showed up. His ride left after he didnt show up. Jeff was walking towards a farm house that was about 10 miles away from the lake..
The driver in the car in the ditch has been charged with dwi among other things.

Also. The irony of that story. I was on my way to an Alcoholics anonymous meeting. Today was day 1001 and I am absolutely loving life

I apologize for the response.

Can definitely agree on getting drunk and waking up to food on the doorstep the next morning.

My man! I've done that so many times I've thought about leaving a cooler by the front door.

I feel less terrible hearing someone else go through the same situation.

This is why I'm a big fan of Peer-Support groups. "You get it".

It's so damn expensive too man

I'm back. Kinda

While not technically a dry January I would say it's been much reduced. So yes I split a bottle of wine one night.

But n the last week I think I've had two drinks?

I didn't even come into January planning anything but it had been a few days so I just decided to see how the month went.

Doing my first Dry January in years and so far have really enjoyed it. I definitely feel a desire for a drink after a hard day and on the weekends but there are plenty of other things to do. I have had some Athletic Brewing Co IPAs that definitely scratch the itch, and make it feel more normal to go out to a bar/restaurant - we like to do Trivia at our local spot and they have some NA options as well.

Haven't felt a big change in terms of weight loss or anything yet (only been a couple weeks) but I also decided to start logging what I eat and trying to eat better. Definitely think this month will be a time to create some good habits and try to get them to stick. I applaud all who are still doing it and encourage those who slipped up to try again.

I got back on my fitness pal and starting running and walking a lot more.

Really eating less has been helpful

Do you cook your own food?

I found that cooking at home and from scratch (avoiding food with preservatives) really stopped some serious stomach issues. In the process of eliminating those issues, I also lost weight.

I actually just started cooking a ton at home. Scratch recipes. Maybe that is helping me too!

Had an in store sample at HEB lines with Tajin. Not bad for a mock-tail.

Comes with packs of Tajin and lime salt as well.

Made it through poker night and a wedding. Rest of month should be easy. Sleep is the biggest benefit from this. Nothing else really but was never a heavy drinker.

Down 12 pounds so far. Going to a winery to listen to some music on Feb 4. That will be the end of Dry January for me.

Damn, I didn't weigh myself Jan 1 but so far I'm only down about 5 or 6 lbs. I have started tracking calories and macros for the first time in a long time though, and feel like I am forming habits that can last me a long time. Congrats to those of you who have made more progress!

Going on a ski trip next week and will get "wet" on that, but planning to try to keep drinking down after that, especially during the week.

That's what it's all about Garland!

A ski trip is a great reward for your progress and recognizing the better habits you are forming!

I should have an asterisk by my weight loss. 5 or 6 pounds is great!

A. I was drinking a stupid daily amount by December.
B. I went full bore keto/low carb about the first/second week or so of Jan.
C. Went full meal prep for work lunch 5 days a week. Mostly ground turkey with rotel and some spices and salt. 0 carb lunch. No breakfast - just coffee. IF too.
D. Ramped up cardio at same time. Santa brought us a new bike & treadmill for Christmas.
