Apparently. I've sure learned my lesson .....then again maybe not.
This thread has delivered. Smoked meatloaf and then your inspiration for meatloaf pie, which I will spin off as a meatloaf kolache.

Outstanding .......I'm starting to think Chicken Fried Meatloaf ......cream gravy of brown gravy is the perplexing question making me scratch my head. I need to get that worked out first.....but WAIT

Why not both?

While I am adamant about calling this sloppy Joe pie a meatloaf…I think "kolache guys" are the worst. When the term has been adopted and used as it has for so long it becomes a new thing and there is nothing wrong with that.

Another big question -- beans or no beans in your meatloaf chili?

Agree. I've been going to Czech Stop in West and Greene's in Zabcikville since I could walk and I've never used any term other than kolache, except for maybe "Chubby". It's a new vernacular and can be used to describe meat and fruit pastries.

So is that like 75% white and 25% brown or maybe more 80/20 ?

You phookers gonna think I'm crazier yet but there was too much mixture for one pie crust so I filled 2 small loaf pans ( like 3x6) and baked them LIKE REGULAR MEATLOAF ..... so I'm gonna cut a couple of slices out and put them in a egg/milk solution, dredge them in seasoned flour and deep fry em

Anybody got a good recipe for Kolache dough?

Cut a slice, scoop mashed potatoes like ice cream on top, reduce brown gravy to look like Hershey's chocolate and top with a cherry tomato.

How about mixing it with some more marinara sauce and some ice cubes. Put it in the blender and voila......meatloaf frosty.

Not gonna lie. You may have stumbled onto something here. I could get on board with battering up a slice of properly made meatloaf and chicken frying that sucker. I'm going with a light brown gravy

My mom would sometimes chicken fry hamburger patties. Gravy from the grease/drippings too. I don't see how chicken fried meatloaf wouldn't be incredibly delicious.

Ok, you guys converted me. I smoked a meatloaf stuffed with smoked cheddar and wrapped in bacon. Glazed it about halfway through. It was a hit. Won't be making it regularly but it's now in the arsenal.

I legitimately didn't know ketchup crust was a thing until I started hanging around more white folk. We would just baste it a few times with the grease on the sides.

Spicy BBQ sauce is the better choice. Also chicharonnes as the binder is top tier.

My mother cooked a fairly good, but not exceptional meatloaf. I never had any problem with it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat it, either.

Years later, I had some meatloaf that was so good it blew me away.

One thing that she cooked really well was pork chops. Only once have I eaten better pork chops than what she cooked -- that was at last spring's Dig-Tess meeting in Dumas.

Jack Allen had a deep fried meatloaf as a special around the time of this threads discussion. I wasn't a huge fan of it but I wonder if there's a connection there.

I like meat loaf about once a month, lots of varieties.
Some tips:
1. As already posted Heinz 57 Sauce is better than catsup, but cheaper and just as good is a can of tomato soup (gives that slightly sweet flavor without the vinegar of catsup).
2. I do use Whataburger Spicy catsup in a thin layer on top, with bacon on top of that.
3. For the filler, I like Ritz crackers best but sometimes come home with extra fried rice from the Chinese Restr.
Depending on what else is involved, I like to use a small can of peas and carrots or green olives cut in half so that the red pimento "eye" shows.
4. Rather than a loaf, I spread the mixture out in a 9x11 pan about an inch thick so that it gets done quickly and is easy to cut up and make into sandwiches.

Hadn't thought about Ritz crackers as opposed to bread crumbs…….I'm intrigued.

I like a can of green chilies in mine. My mom would always crush saltines or use dry instant oats as filler. I use whatever's handy. Crackers, breadcrumbs, oatmeal, cool. Once I used a bunch of cheeseits (Tabasco flavored) and that turned out interesting.

Okay, fine, we understand that the term itself has a nauseating connotation for you. We'll change the subject.

Then don't open it. It's really not that hard to avoid; especially of it honestly bothers you that much and you're not just being a drama queen
